Louisiana Natives Make an Impact in Bowl Games - Part 2

by Lee Brecheen

     Patrick Trahan - Ole Miss

January 15, 2010 - The Cotton Bowl - Oklahoma State and Ole MISS
Ole MISS won this game, and really the four key turnovers that were made by OLE MISS, which won the game, where by two Louisiana Natives LB Patrick Trahan 6-3 230 a Senior from ST Augustine HS, had two Interceptions, one for a Touchdown, and one that sealed the win for Ole Miss. Trahan will have a great chance to get drafted from Ole Miss. Free Safety Kendrick Lewis 6-1 195 had two Interceptions, to stop key drives for Oklahoma State. Lewis played his High School ball at O P Walker, West bank of New Orleans, also a senior, who has a chance to go high in the draft. Punt returner Marshay Green 5-9 175, who runs 4.45 in the forty had several great returns to help the offense. Green played ball at Bastrop HS, and was MVP of the Cotton Bowl in 2008 for Ole Miss. Green will get drafted as a CB, and has shot returning punts and kicks in the NFL. Center Daverin Geralds 6-3 300 pounds is also a senior, that had a great game against Oklahoma State, will be a shot at the NFL. Defensive End, Kentrell Lockett 6-5 260, had many hurries in the game, is a Junior, and NFL prospect for 2011, played at Hahnville HS. Running Back Brandon Bolden 5-11 220, had a decent game, and will be Ole Miss top runner for 2010 season, prepped at Scotlandville HS. Oklahoma State had only one player from Louisiana Tight End Wilson Youman 6-4 252, a (Redshirt SO) from St Martinville HS, who had a catch in the game. Look for Wilson to more of a factor in 2010 for the Cowboys.

       Kendrick Lewis - Ole Miss

Chick-Fil-A Bowl - Virginia Tech and Tennessee

Va Tech won this game big, but some key Louisiana natives played for Tennessee and did well. Linebacker Herman Lathers 6-0 215, who played at Istrouma and Scotlandville in Baton Rouge, had a great game with several tackles. Herman is just a Redshirt Freshman. Freshman Free Safety Janzen Jackson 6-1 185, who played at Carencro, and Barbe, made the ALL SEC Freshman team. Janzen had an Interception in the game, and some key hits. Jackson was suspended earlier this year, and looks like he has a NFL future after great True Freshman season.

        Marshay Green - Ole Miss

Texas Bowl - Missouri and Navy
Senior Defensive END Brian Coulter 6-5 250, who runs a 4.6 forty had a good year for Missouri, and has a good chance of being drafted, and playing a long time in the NFL. Brian played High School ball at Baker HS in Baton Rouge, originally signed with Florida State out of HS, but went to a Junior College, and then signed back with Missouri.

Sun Bowl - Stanford and Oklahoma
Oklahoma had Senior RB Chris Brown 5-9 190 from Alexandria HS, got some carries, and like his four years of playing was solid in this game. Brown should be a free agent in the NFL. Defensive End Frank Alexander 6-4 245, a (Red Shirt SO), had a really good game. Frank, was the team’s top backup off bench, but will be a starter in 2010, has a big time future as a NFL player one day. Frank prepped at Southern Lab HS, in Baton Rouge

     Kentrell Lockett - Ole Miss

Champs Sports Bowl - Miami and Wisconsin
A really good game that Wisconsin won in the end. Miami had one Louisiana native playing Wide Receiver LaRon Byrd 6-3 200 pounds, had a catch, and had a solid season, with some key TDS. LaRon is a true (SO), who played in 2008 as a True Freshman. Prepped at Hahnville HS, starting to show his ability.

       Brandon Bolden - Ole Miss

Liberty Bowl -  East Carolina and Arkansas
Defensive Backs CB Ramon Broadway and SS Jerico Nelson are Louisiana natives that came up with big plays in the game. Ramon 5-9 191 is a junior, who prepped at Evangel Christian HS and played RB in High School. Jerico Nelson 5-9 197, is a true (SO), who was a RB at Destrehan HS, then converted to SS at Arkansas. True Freshman D D Jones, got a lot of reps at DT for Arkansas. Jones played High School ball at Bastrop, and goes 6-4 300 pounds, had a great year, and has a great future.

Gator Bowl - West Virginia and Florida State
West Virginia had one Louisiana native, who shined all season and had some really great blocks, OT Selvish Capers 6-5 298, who’s a Senior, has a chance to be drafted in the First or Second round of the upcoming NFL draft. I remember watching Selvish, play Tight End, at ST Augustine HS, in New Orleans. Selvish played at 240 pounds in high school. This kid can run a 5.0 forty, and might go under that for the combine. Selvish played with DE Rahim Alem, LSU, Chad Jones FS, LSU, Rishaw Johnson OG, Ole Miss, and Patrick Trahan, LB, Ole Miss, all on the same team at ST Augustine HS in New Orleans.

         Chris Brown - Oklahoma

Alamo Bowl - Michigan State and Texas Tech
This was a great win for Texas Tech, and a lot of that had to do with the great Linebacker play of Brian Duncan 6-1 238 pounds, with one year left at Texas Tech. Brian prepped at Tara HS, in Baton Rouge, and weighed about 220, when he signed with Texas Tech. Brian is a hitter, and has a chance to get drafted as a senior in 2010.

            Frank Alexander (left) - Oklahoma

Fiesta Bowl - Texas Christian and Boise State
The only player in the game from Louisiana, Wide Receiver Jimmy Young 6-1 200 pounds, did not have his best game a Horn Frog, but this kid has NFL written all over him, with one season left to show it in 2010. I loved watching Jimmy in High School, played at Ouachita HS, in Monroe. Jimmy can run a 4.5 forty, and is a big physical Wide Receiver.

National Championship Game: Rose Bowl -  Alabama and Texas
Two players from Louisiana, where key players off the bench for Nick Saban and his stellar defense. Robby Green 6-0 175, a True so, would come off the bench as a nickel back, look for Robby to start next year as a junior. Robby Green played at John Curtis HS, in River Ridge, and his dad played at LSU, and Archbishop Shaw in the 1980”s.DT /DE Luther Davis 6-3 300 pounds, was off the bench for several plays in the rotation, and should be a starter in 2010 for the Crimson Tide. Luther prepped at West Monroe HS, has one year left, and if he has a good year in 2010, might become a NFL prospect. RB Eddie Lacey 6-0 225 from Dutchtown HS, and WR Kenny Bell 6-1 170 Rayville HS, where on the sidelines as Redshirts.

      Ramon Broadway - Arkansas
    Jerico Nelson - Arkansas
