In a league that is full of star defensive backs in the Catholic league when you look back at New Orleans greats like Craig Steltz (former defensive back for Archbishop Rummel and LSU), Tyrann Mathieu (defensive back for St. Augustine, LSU, and the Arizona Cardinals), Richie Petitpon (former defensive back for Jesuit, Tulane and the Washington Redskins), newcomers like Kristian Fulton (Rummel and currently with LSU), and many more have first made their name in the Catholic league. This year, the Catholic league possesses a new star at cornerback and his name is Jeremiah West.

Zachary linebackers Herbert Cummings and Donovan Perkins make up one of the best line backing groups in the entire state. Last year, it was the offense making the headlines with star quarterback Lindsay Scott leading the team to a state championship. A lot of people would say that the offense was the number one reason why Zachary would go on to win the state championship for the first time in school history but the defense was also a factor in carrying the team as well.

Slidell Wide Receiver Terry Baham III is probably the best wide receiver in the state that nobody talks about. He has great hands and has a basketball frame at 6'4. Watching his highlights, he can jump and attack the football better than probably anybody in the state. He had just over 30 catches, but whenever Baham catches the football, it is going to be a huge play.

Star St. Michael linebacker Mitchell Roe did not always play football. If you would ask his family and friends, his major sport was baseball which was his best sport. He still does play third base as well as left field for the baseball team. He even has a baseball offer from BRCC but many would argue that he is just as good in football as he is in baseball.

On offense, the most important position is the quarterback but arguably the second most important is the center because he is the one who snaps the football and gives the ball to the quarterback in the first place. The center must also be the quarterback of the offensive line and communicate the blocking assignments to the rest of the offensive line.

If you look at Josh Tourelle, you would think that Tourelle plays in the NFL not in high school. He is 6'3 around 230 lbs. That is the normal height and weight for a linebacker in the NFL level.

Sulphur QB Byron Walker may not be the biggest guy on the field but boy is he fast. Byron Walker is probably the fastest QB in the state and that even includes Lowell Narcisse (St. James). That would be a great race to watch between those guys but Walker is not just a running quarterback. He is a quarterback that can run.

Brother Martin RB/OLB Bruce Jordan-Swilling is arguably the best high school football player in the state of Louisiana and one of the best recruits in the entire country. For all the New Orleans Saints football fans, Bruce is the son of future hall of fame linebacker Pat Swilling, who played seven seasons with the New Orleans Saints and had five Pro Bowls in his career. Bruce Jordan-Swilling is looking to build his own legacy and has impressed a lot of high school football fans since he first started for the Crusaders as a sophomore.
