University High's Natural

by Nicholas Humble

September 24, 2009 - University High running back Jamar Thomas likes to hang out with friends, go fishing, vacation in Destin and eat pizza just like any other teenage boy; but his ability as an athlete is what separates him from the rest of the pack.

He has been playing football his whole life. “Since I started walking I’ve been playing football,” Thomas said. He has a feel for the game that cannot be taught. “I don’t think I was taught,” Thomas said. “It’s just something that I’ve always been good at and just had a natural feel for.”
.
His most memorable game came against Calvary Baptist in Shreveport, which also happens to contain his favorite stadium. “It’s a turf field, and I had my best game there,” Thomas said. I mean it was a good atmosphere with a lot of people and a lot of fans.”

His favorite college teams are LSU and Tulane, and already committing to Tulane, Thomas has a gift that could get him to the next level, the NFL. “That’s my number one goal.” He hopes to follow in the footsteps of his favorite athlete, Tiki Barber. “He has a very unique running style, and he’s a true running back and a good leader,” Thomas said.

His favorite NFL team is the Dallas Cowboys. “I’ve always been a fan of them. They had some good players come through there, and they’ve always been one of my favorite teams,” Thomas said.

His individual goals this year include rushing for 1000 yards, achieving All-State, not fumbling the football and as a team he wants it all. “Always win state, number one, and just have a good year together and have a good bonding and chemistry.”

Thomas believes he is a good leader. “I’ve always been a natural leader everywhere I went.” Because football comes so easily to Thomas, he can enjoy the game more. “I have so much fun doing it.”
