Recruit spotlight: St. Louis High School Athlete Kenny Brown

by Lee Brecheen

December 1, 2009 - One of the most exciting players to put on a uniform in the Lake Charles Area, last three years has been Athlete Kenny Brown of St. Louis High School. He is easily the most god gifted player with a football past the line of scrimmage, when it comes to cutting, and turning his hips, and going up field. Kenny has speed and quickness you can’t coach, but also his upside is scary, if he goes to the right school , he plays WR in the ST Louis offense, and since the school, has a lot of letterman back , he is not counted on to do everything in the offense, which is run first, pass second. This kid looks 4.3/ 40, on a football field, but he’s more like, 4.45, and is quick as he is fast, I can see Kenny in college, playing in space playing for a team like Texas Tech, or Houston in their spread offense, where they throw the ball 60 times a Game. Kenny stands about 5-10, weighs about 165, and can take hits, for such a small guy, he’s pretty tough. Percy Harvin WR for the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL is only 5-11 190, and when he signed out of college for the Florida Gators, he weighed about 170. Kenny Brown had 47 catches for 865 yards, and 11 touchdowns, again in more of a running offense, which is more impressive during the season. These stats in a evangel offense would be scary, if Kenny Brown played for Evangel Christian High School, even with all the talent they have, to tell you how much talent this kid has, he would have been the most talented player on their offense, and they have 4 DI offense skill players. Also keep in mind the school did not have a tall QB , with a cannon arm throwing him the ball , when it was thrown, so much of those stats, where Kenny catching shorter passes and making yardage in space after the catch.

I have a lot of respect for Head Coach Mike Johns, he’s all about team, and not one player, when it comes to his offense or defense, during his 35 plus years in High School football as a coach, I think this will make this kid a much better player for the next level, when he is show cased as a Skylar Green LSU, Percy Harvin Florida , Wes Welker Texas Tech or a Phillip Livas of LA Tech once in college. All these players have the same thing in common with Brown, make plays in space, with your speed and quickness, not so much your size, as far as weight or height, all these guys are under 6-0 tall, most in the 5-10 range. ALL the state schools want him, and some DI schools have shown interest, but I’m here to tell you, just like last year with another Lake Charles product Ernest Celestie Athlete 5-10 170, from Barbe High School, who signed with Texas Tech, this kid is the real deal, and the public will see that in college, if he continues to work hard, and signs with the right school.
