Coaching Spotlight: Guy Blanchard, Port Allen High School

1.) How many years have you been in coaching and at what age did you start coaching?

I’ve been coaching on the High School level for 15 years now. I started coaching little league baseball at the age of 22.


2.) What is the name of the first school you coached at? What other schools have you coached at?

I started my coaching career at Parkview Baptist. I have also coached at FRA, Zachary, and Redemptorist.


3.) What made you get into coaching? Who or what influenced you the most?

I felt like I could have a positive effect on young student-athletes. I enjoy being around the young athletes and helping them become young men.

 4.) Where did you go to high school? What sports did you play if any?

I attended Catholic High in Baton Rouge


5.) Did you go to college?

Southeastern Louisiana University


6.) Who are some of the best players you’ve ever coached?

Damion Dixion – Louisville

John Edwards – Tulane

Andre Hal – Vanderbilt

L.J. Parker – Nicholls State

Jestin Kelly – Grambling

Darian Claiborne – Texas A&M

Leboux Cooper – Eastern Arizona


7.) What would you like to see changed in High School football?

I would love for them to adopt the NCAA rules for safety & protection of the players.


8.) Are there any changes you would like to see in High School football that they have already changed in college ball?

9.) Do you think the brand of Louisiana football is different than anywhere else?

I think Louisiana Football is a way of life for many people so to that extent yes it is different.


10.) Do you feel like the offense/defense philosophies differ between North and South Louisiana?

I believe philosophies are based on individuals not schools. (U-High has a coach from Bastrop now, before he got there, what they did was completely different.)


11.) Who is your favorite NFL player of all time and why?

Emmit Smith – He set his goals high and he accomplished all of them. Including going back to school and getting his degree.


12.) Who is your favorite college or pro football coach and why?

Nick Saban,

Jimmy Johnson,

Les Miles.

 They are all winners, they may have different styles and personalities but the bottom line is they all WIN!
