LAFM: How long have you coached? How long have you been head coach at Breaux Bridge?

Breaux Bridge is the only school I’ve ever coached at. I have been a coach here for about 25 years and have been the head coach here since 2010.

LAFM: How did you get into coaching?

That is a good question; I really do not have an exact answer for that. Coaching is just something I always wanted to do.

LAFM: Have any coaches had a major influence on you as a coach?

Yes. Former Breaux Bridge head coach Michael Mowad had a big influence on me. I learned a lot about coaching during the several years I worked with him.  Another one of my favorite coaches growing up was Tom Landry of the Dallas Cowboys.

LAFM: Who are some of the best players you have ever coached? What made them great?

Domanick Davis, Travin Dural, Jessie Daniels, Tyren Alexander and Randall Menard just to name a few great ones. They were all good kids with great work ethics. They were very coachable players, which is always a good quality.

LAFM: What are some of you expectations for the up coming season?

Well, last year we split the district championship. So I would like to compete for another district championship as well as making the playoffs. Then try and go as far as we can in playoffs.

LAFM: Who are some of your current players that you believe will be key to your success this year?

Orel Ledet and Joseph Williams will both be a big part of our success. They are both 3 year starters so they have a lot of experience and leadership. Orel is a linebacker and Joseph is a defensive back. Daniel Wilson and Diondre Wilson will be big parts of the success of this team because they are also returning starters . We have a lot of returning starters in key positions so I expect a lot from them.

LAFM: Who is your favorite college or pro football coach and why?

Well, I hate to tell you that because many people in this area aren’t his biggest fans. But my favorite coach is actually Nick Saban. Obviously not very well liked in Louisiana because he is an Alabama man. I am a big fan of his because back when he was at LSU I used to go help him at his camps. He really is a good guy and also a great coach. I am also a big fan of Les Miles and believe he is a great coach.

LAFM: What is your advice to high school students regarding the recruiting process?

Well,  my big thing is when the kids are getting recruited they need to be honest with the coaches. I always tell them that I am going to be honest with the college coaches and they should be as well. Also, I always to keep all their options open and give everyone a chance. You never know what offer you are going to take and where your future is going to take you so don’t burn any of your bridges.

LAFM: Who is you all time favorite football player and why?

My favorite football player would have to be Roger Staubach. Most people won’t remember him, but I was a big Cowboys fan growing up. He was their quarterback.

LAFM: What makes Breaux Bridge a great school and also a great football program?

It is a good community school and we are also very fortunate to have great athletes. That is what makes us very competitive year in and year out. The community having our back and all of these athletes that want to come to Breaux Bridge to further their football career are the keys to our success.
