October 4, 2010 – At 5’11” and 260 pounds, defensive tackle Rees Gideon is preparing his body to take the rigors of the next level of football.
The St. Thomas More senior has helped lead his Cougars to a hot 4-0 start, already surpassing the halfway point of last years’ win total.
The dominant defensive tackle is being recruited by a few different schools, but his father said the favorite at the moment is Tulane.
“He likes Tulane and Bucknell is interested in him,” Gideon’s father said. “Those are the two that are showing some interest in him. Millsaps has shown some interest but he’s not sure he wants to go somewhere that small.
He also said the Green Wave is a good fit for his son.
“We’d like to see him at Tulane,” he said.
Gideon has also attended camps at Tulane camp and Millsaps along with a lineman camp at Nicholls State.
The strong senior also throws shot-put for his Cougars. Last season he was a regional qualifier, throwing about 48 feet.Gideon’s father said his son’s best feature is his explosiveness.
“He’s extremely fast for his size, he has great quickness and he’s incredibly strong,” he said. “He’s had two or three sacks this season so far and it’s just his explosiveness.”
And when he’s not on the field playing, Gideon is watching the big games live.
“LSU is very much our favorite team,” Gideon’s father said. “We never miss an LSU home game and we also have Saints season tickets.”
