September 3, 2010 – Southeastern Louisiana had more total yards and first downs but Tulane won the most important stat points,as the Lions fall short against Tulane 27-21 Thursday night in the New Orleans Superdome.
The Lions lost their twelved game versus Football Bowl Sub-division teams in as many games, since the program was re-established in 2003.They have one more change to change that against Louisiana-Monroe in three weeks.
Tulane Scored on their opening drive of 75 yards in 8:35,caped off by a 3 yard Touchdown run by Orleans Darwa(the first of three Touchdown runs for him).Southeastern on there first drive goes 8 plays 57 yards and finishes with a 23 yard touchdown from Tyler Beatty to Kory Theodore to tie the game at 7-7.
Southeastern had several miscues and one was a 25 yard punt by Beau Monthe, returned 14 yards by Casey Robottom to the Lions 27 yard line, which lead to 4 play drive and a 8 yard TD run by Darkwa to put the wave up 14-7 at the 12:15 mark of the second. The Wave later would add a field goal after the Lions Beatty was intercepted by Shakiel Smith and returned 24 yards into Lion territory, add a 15 yard facemask later, Wave kicker Cairo Santos makes a 29 yard field goal to go up 17-7 and after both teams exchange turnovers thats your halftime score from New Orleans.
Third Quarter started with Southeastern on there own 17,13 plays,82 yards,a 4th down offsides penalty later,Zeke Jones of the Lions ruled forward progress stopped on the field was reviewed and over turned as a fumble inside the one and recovered by Tulane’s Phillip Davis and called a touchback.Fortunately for SLU Re’Keem Wilson would intercept Ryan Griffin on the 31 yard line three plays later,to lead to a 29 yard touchdown catch by Simmie Yarborough P.A.T makes it 17-14 with 6:39 to play in the third.
In the Fourth quarter,Wave Kicker Santos, would make 27 yard field goal on a 13 play drive to make it Tulane 20-14.The Lions on there first drive of fourth Yarborough would fumble a screen pass on the wave seven yard line recovered by the wave and two plays later Darwa walks into the endzone untouched to make it 27- 14 Wave at the 11:15 mark.
Lions did not give up going 77 yards in only 5 plays, caped off with a 41 yard touchdown catch by Cory Theodore,a great catch and his second TD of the day. With 9:29 to play in the 4th ,27-21 Wave, both Defenses held each other on Defensive . Tulane punts to SLU with less than one minute to play, the lions with one time out, drive into Wave territory, helped by a fourth down Pass interference penalty. The Lions Quarterback Tyler Beatty is sacked before he can get off a last second hail mary and time expires on a 27-21 Tulane Victory. The Wave host Ole Miss next Saturday,The Lions Host UT Martin next Saturday.
