Riverside Football had a great 2015 season making it all the way to the Dome. The team really had some talented players that did a great job leading the team. LB Evan Veron was a tackling machine who made plays on the defensive side of the ball every game. If you saw this kid play one game, you knew instantly he was one of the best in state. LAFM: What is your name, age, position, and school?

Evan Veron, 18 years old, OLB/MLB, Riverside Academy

 

LAFM: What is your height and weight?

6 ft, 218 lbs

 

LAFM: What is your 40 yard dash time, bench, and squat max?

4.81/40, 280 lbs, and 450 lbs

 

In college, do you have a preference to outside or inside linebacker?

I’ll play either. It doesn’t matter.

 

Is there anybody in your family that has played sports in high school, college, or even the professional level?

My dad played football at Lutcher High School.

Have you gone to any college camps, if so where?

ULL, ULM, Southern Miss, Tulane, LSU, & South Alabama

 

Have you received any offers? If so, where?

Nicholls State University & Northwestern State University

 

If you had to pick any college to play for, who would you pick?

LSU

 

Why do you want to play for LSU?

They play hard-nose football.

 

Who is the best player that you played against this year?

#2 from John Ehret (De’jon Harris)

 

When you reflect upon the season, did your team accomplish your goals?

While we didn’t reach our ultimate goal, it doesn’t mean we failed. I am really proud of my teammates, and we made memories that will last a lifetime. I am just very thankful for the opportunity.

 

What are strengths to your game?

Stopping the run, tackling in open field, & rushing the passer

 

What are areas that you need to improve on?

I would say dropping into coverage and also sometimes I try to aim too big when tackling somebody.

What is your favorite football memory?

Going to the Super Dome.

 

Which player do you study in order to get better at your position?

Brian Bosworth (former linebacker at Oklahoma and the Seattle Seahawks)

 

What is it about Brian Bosworth that you like so much?

His playstyle is just non-stop. His motor never stopped when he was playing, and he spoke volumes with the way he hit people. He reminds me of myself.

 

What would you like to major in?

Psychology

 

In your opinion, who’s going to win the national championship in college football and why?

Alabama. They are a more well-rounded squad than anyone else in the 4 team bracket.

 

What is your favorite part about playing football?

I would say making relationships with people around the game and also getting to tackle people.

 

Who are your role models in your life and why do you choose these people to be your role models?

My dad, because he’s taught me everything I know.

Jace is from Addis, LA and is currently a senior at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge. He is the editor of the school newspaper the “Bearly Published.” He also announces CHS football, basketball, and baseball games for the Bruin Broadcast Network which is Catholic High’s streaming website that shows all Catholic High events. On weekends, Jace is the PA announcer for his middle school football games. He loves God, family, and watching all the levels of football from high school to the NFL.
