LAFM: Name, position, school?

My name is Matthew Harper, and I am a DT for Parkway High School.

LAFM: Current weight and height?

6-1,  290 lbs

LAFM: Current ACT score and GPA?

18 ACT 3.1 GPA

LAFM: 40-yard dash, and max bench, max squat, max clean?

I run a 5.1 40-yard dash. My max bench is 500, squat 750, and clean is 325. I also power lift outside of football.

LAFM: How did the season go for you and the team?

It was a great year. We knew going into the summer we would have a great shot to have a really good season. We made it to the dome which was a great way to end my senior year.

I finished the year making First Team All-District DL as well as All-Parish DL.

LAFM: What has been your best game this season?

I would have to say Byrd game. They use a Wing T offense and our DC, Neil May, knows the Wing T really well. He had us study them for 3 weeks figuring out how to defend them. When it came game time he told me to just go, and so I did and had a great game. Being my first year playing defense I spent alot of time learning and focusing on what I needed to do. It was nice to just go out their and play. It was definitely one of the funner games we played this year, and we won.

LAFM: Who is your favorite football player of all time?

Terry Bradshaw-He was a local guy who my dad always talked about growing up. He bragged about how Bradshaw went to high school here, went to LA Tech, and then ended up being great in the NFL.

LAFM: How old were you when you started playing and where?

I was probably in about 4th grade when I started playing at Bossier Parks.

LAFM: Do you have any family members or friends that have had a big influence on you as you play football?

My dad. He pushes me to excel and wants to see me do well in everything I do whether its football or weight lifting.

LAFM: If football does not work out for you, what do you see yourself doing? Have you thought of a major in college? Why?

I want to major in the medical field or go into the fire department. My dad is a fire fighter and I know alot of the fireman at the department. I guess I enjoy helping people which is why those 2 options interest me.

LAFM: Are there any schools that are recruiting you? What do you like about them?

Well, I have an offer from Henderson State. I also have schools like ULL, LA Tech, and Northwestern looking at me as well. I like Henderson State and plan to visit their in about 2 weeks. I also like LA Tech and the other schools.

LAFM: What positions are you being recruited for? Why do you like playing DT?

DT-It is more fast paced and I get to hit people. I have to react more as a DL and find I get a big adrenaline rush from the position.

LAFM: What made your team special this year?

Our team had 40 seniors this past season. We had no shortage of leadership, and we all played for each other. We had no big time stars even though Brandon got alot of attention. It was a brotherhood of players who were all very close and played as a team.
