June 21, 2010 – A sleeper athlete in South Louisiana who can run and has a really good vertical is RB/Athlete Devin Payne from Port Allen High School.

Devin Payne plays RB for his team, but in college he could play a number of positions.  In Basketball, Payne averaged 17 points a game, and in Track he high jumps a big time six foot two.  In 2009, Devin Payne ran for 650 yards, and several TD’s.  That’s a great feat considering L.J. Parker, the QB who signed with Tulane, and RB/CB Andre Hall, who signed with Vanderbilt in the SEC, were also skill options on offense last year.  In the forty Devin runs a true 4.5, and in the weight room he squats 500 pounds and cleans 255 pounds.  Any readers that played football and are reading this know that’s freaky stats for a guy that stands only 5-10 and weighs only 188 pounds. Devin in the class room has a 17 ACT and his GPA is over 2.0, but will be higher in the fall, Devin is a kid who works hard.

I love the way this kid competes on offense  as a RB and defense when needed as a CB or SS.  In college, Devin can play RB, CB, and maybe even SS eventually.   I think by the time he fills out in college Devin will be in the 200 pound range which will be RB size or SS size at the next level.  You don’t see too many 5-10, 200 pound CBs in college football.  Devin’s favorite schools in order are ULL Ragin Cajuns, Memphis, Tulsa, Arkansas State, and Tulane.  I would say in the end Tulane would be the team to beat since two of his teammates from high school play at Tulane.  ULL would be the other school to beat because they have a serious need at RB, and he could get early playing time at either Tulane or ULL as a RB.
