Recruit Update: QB Jared Foster, Barbe High School

December 8, 2010 – Every year in Louisiana there’s a QB that seems to go unnoticed by all the big camps and big rankings Nationwide. This year there’s a kid named Jared Foster (6-1, 180) from Barbe High School in Lake Charles, LA who is the poster boy for sleeper Recruit in the state of Louisiana for 2011 class. For example Stefan Leflors wasn’t highly recruited out of Christian Life in Baton Rouge a few years ago, but he went to Louisville and made All American as a big time QB.

All Jared did in 2010 was pass for a whopping 3,090 yards, 30 Touchdown passes, and 6 rushing Touchdowns. This kid also did this without his number one senior WR Tye Taylor for most of the season.  I saw Jared play in 3 games in 2009 and I was super impressed with his delivery, arm strength, ability to move around in the pocket, and poise. I feel like in the 20 years I have covered high school football for both my magazine and watching tape, he’s the most gifted thrower/runner I’ve seen play at Barbe . There have been good Quarterbacks come through the program, but they were either too short for DIV 1 or too tall and did not have good feet. This kid has both, and a big time leader for the college level.

I talked to Jared this week and he told me he has offers from local McNeese State, Southeastern, Central Arkansas, and soon one coming from Miami of Ohio, and Memphis wants him to visit. LSU has talked about a preferred Walk on or maybe even more.  LA Tech is also talking to him heavily lately.

Jared Foster’s top game in 2010 was against a great local program, Sulphur High School, where he had 413 yards passing, 4 Touchdowns throwing, and 3 Rushing.  I feel like he’s the best Senior QB prospect in the state of Louisiana. To play big time ball you as a QB you need to have the feet, the arm, and the leadership, and he’s got all three.   Jared is a true 6-1 in height, and will probably weigh in the 200 to 205 range when he is filled out for college in a couple of years or less.  His ACT score is a 20 and his GPA is a 3.2.
