LAFM’s Week 7 Recruiting Scoop and Tidbits

by Jace LeJeune

We have reached the point in the regular season where district play is starting to take form. Not only has the regular season picked up for a lot of these high school teams, but the recruiting has heated up as well. Trying to keep track of it all, our staff was able to cover a couple of teams this week and visit with the coaches as well as the players to give us a recruiting update with what is going on in their prospective programs when it comes to recruiting after Week 7 of prep play.

Ascension Catholic High School: (Jace LeJeune)

Ascension Catholic senior DE Dillion Davis (Property of LAFM)

Ascension Catholic High School senior defensive end Dillion Davis (6-2, 276) has been the highest senior recruit this year for the Bulldogs as he has already received offers from Tulane, ULL, Texas State, Arkansas State, Nicholls State, Southern, and Southeastern. The next collegiate visit Davis will be taking is at ULL.

Senior center Jacob Matirne (6-2, 260) has received no offers, but he is planning on taking a visit to Nicholls State soon.

In a surprising note, All-District running back and 1,000 yard rusher Jamar Barber (5-7, 170) is still looking for his first collegiate offer.

Donaldsonville High School: (Jace LeJeune)

Donaldsonville senior WR/CB Christian Bell (Property of LAFM)

Donaldsonville High School senior WR Jeffrey Johnson (5-11, 195) had a pretty good game in last night’s 21-6 loss against St. Charles Catholic after scoring the only touchdown for the Tigers. Johnson’s speed and athleticism has attracted some interest from colleges such as McNeese State and Southern.

Senior WR/DE Terrell Brown (6-2, 200) is another talented player for the Tigers that is getting some interest from Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama.

Senior WR/CB Christian “Muppetbaby” Bell (5-8, 160) is lightning in a bottle and already has a couple of kick return touchdowns on the season. Most likely, Bell will go the JUCO route, but programs such as Southern and Grambling have shown interest in the explosive playmaker.

Kentwood High School: (Jace LeJeune)

Kentwood High School senior WR Trey Palmer (6-1, 180) took advantage every time he touched the football against the East Iberville Tigers scoring twice (one on a touchdown reception and the other on a punt return) on Thursday. The LSU commit has been true to his word as he is not planning on taking any other visits to other DI college programs.

Senior DE Kendall Wilkerson certainly stands out for the Kangaroos with his 6-4, 265 pound frame. Wilkerson also showed it on the field becoming nearly unblockable against the East Iberville offensive line. The LAFM 2nd Team All-South Louisiana team selection has received offers from Tulane, ULL, Western Kentucky, Southeastern, UCF, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Nicholls State. Also, according to Head Coach Jonathan Foster, he received a call the other day from LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron asking about Wilkerson.

On another surprising note, senior RB Larry Carter (5-10, 210), who is the bellcow of the Kentwood rushing attack, is still looking for his first collegiate offer.

A lot of eyes are on Trey Palmer, but the Kangaroos also have another explosive wide receiver in Edward Magee (6-0, 180). Magee has already been offered by Southeastern, Mississippi College, Stevenson University, and Jackson State.

Ouachita Parish High School: (Jace LeJeune)

Ouachita Parish senior DT Jaquez Jackson (Property of LAFM)

Ouachita Parish High School senior DT/DE Jaquez Jackson (6-1, 283) has received offers from McNeese State, ULM, Northwestern State, Arkansas Monticello, and Kansas State. Jackson is headed to McNeese State on October 27th for his next visit.

Plaquemine High School: (Jace LeJeune)

After receiving offers from Southeastern, Northwestern State, Nicholls State, and Prairie View A&M, Plaquemine High School senior WR Dontayvion Wicks (6-2, 200) is planning on taking visits to ULL, South Alabama, and Nicholls State over the next couple of weeks.

Port Allen High School: (Lee Brecheen)

Port Allen High School senior DE Traveon Scott (6-2, 245) is gaining momentum in recruiting after being offered by Arkansas Monticello. Look for bigger programs to offer soon as he is a DI caliber player.

Senior middle linebacker Trevonte Shepherd (6-1, 210) will go the junior college route.

Sam Houston High School: (Cameron Cerniglia)

Washington Marion High School transfer Gerron Duhon (5-10, 175), who is now at Sam Houston High School, is committed to play for the Yale Bulldogs. The three star prospect committed to the Bulldogs earlier in August over teams such as Tulane, UTSA, Grambling, McNeese State, Southeastern, and Cornell.
