Lakeside’s Record Setting Offensive Backfield Flying Under The Radar
by Brady Goings
Lakeside High School is close to the Shreveport and Monroe area in Louisiana. They are in Class 2A, and their mascot is the Warriors. Under the radar for the most part, Lakeside has a couple of players on their team that are the leaders at their respective positions for their school’s history in quarterback Jordan Preuett and running back Jocquez Lott. These two players have the most passing yards and rushing yards in the history of their school’s football program.
Jocquez Lott is a 5-10, 220 pound running back from Minden, Louisiana. As a junior, he rushed for 1,575 yards and 25 touchdowns. Talk about a work horse. With such a great stat line, he is the leading rusher in Lakeside history. I asked Jocquez what he thought about this year’s team.
“I feel that if we can keep working, we can get better,” Lott said. “We started off rough, but we are getting things turned around so we can be a great team.”
That is a great statement from a true leader on a football team. Jordan Preuett is a 6-4, 185 pound quarterback from Sibley, Louisiana. As a junior, he passed for 1,831 yards and accounted for 25 touchdowns. He is a very productive passer and is looking to take a step forward the rest of his senior year. I asked Jordan about his feelings on this year’s team.
“I feel like we haven’t fully arrived yet to our full potential,” Preuett said. There is a lot of talent on our team but also some inexperience on both sides of the ball. We are being counted out of a lot of games that we believe we can win. I think we can open some eyes throughout the season and make a playoff run. Right now, I’m just working to be the best leader for this team I can be and bring the best version of myself to the school, locker room, practice field, and game field every day to benefit the team.”
Preuett, Lott, and company are off to a shaky 1-2 start in their first three games. Even though the explosive Lakeside offense has averaged 38 points per game in those three games, the defense has also given up 53 points per game in their three games against Lincoln Prep, Bossier, and Mangham. The Warriors look to even their record this Friday as they will face the undefeated West Ouachita Chiefs.
