Coach and Team Update, Sci Academy

The Sci Academy is an upcoming charter school in New Orleans, Louisiana ( 5552 Read Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70127). They have had a football program the last three years. While they have yet to have a winning season, this team is on the upswing. Below is information about there coach, and a little on this upcoming year, and there 2015 class recruits.

Head Coach Cornelius Dukes took over the program last season. Coach Dukes is from Florida where he played football at Royal Palm Beach High School. He went on to be a WR at Alabama State and Florida Atlantic University. After playing arena and Canadian Football, he started coaching at his old high school, Royal Beach, and has been coaching ever since. He started in New Orleans working for Kipp Renaissance. At Kipp, Dukes was able to start the school’s first tackle football middle school program. After two years, the program blossomed into one of the best middle school programs in New Orleans. Dukes wanted to return to high school. After a short stint at Warren Easton as an assistant, he got the opportunity to come to Sci Academy this past August.

Coach Dukes is putting more emphasis on athletics at Sci Academy. Looking at the football team, the program really did improve as the season progressed.  They need to work hard in the off-season, but with 13 experienced players coming back they can do some real damage this fall. They have a good coach and several talented athletes which could be the foundation to a very successful program.
