From Texas To Louisiana, St. Paul's Defensive Back Justin Washington Feeling Right At Home In The Hungry Wolves' Secondary

Coming from Allen High School in Allen, Texas, Justin Washington and his family made the move to Louisiana for his senior year. Making the move to a new state may be a big jump for anyone, but not for Justin. He has felt right at home playing football for the St. Paul's Wolves where he has already made his mark as one of the best senior defensive backs in South Louisiana. Playing some heavy competition in the state of Texas has helped him transition to the great talent in Louisiana and because of that, the transition has been easier.

"The move was a family decision on what what was best for me and my future," Washington said. "I think the difference is the crowd noise. Talent wise, I would say is about the same."

Louisiana Football Magazine's scout Lee Brecheen has already seen Justin play and has been more than impressed with his great feet, hips, and lockdown ability as a cornerback. The 6-0, 163 pound corner also agrees with that analysis.

"My biggest strengths are my speed, ball skills, and playing the receiver," Washington said.

Those strengths may have given Washington the Golden Ticket of playing football at the next level as he has already received an offer from Southeastern Louisiana University.

"The coaches there are amazing," Washington said. "They check up on me making sure everything is good inside and outside of school. I like the culture and the relationship they have with their players."

Washington will get to experience that culture next week as the Lions will take on Houston Baptist next weekend. Despite the offer and the recruiting visit, Washington has kept his options open as he has been contacted by Culver-Stockton , Albright , and Nicholls State. He has also been invited to attend a Mississippi State game as well.

He has also shown the ability to not only lockdown a defender, but take over a game as well as he had two interceptions and an interception returned for a touchdown in the Wolves' 35-0 win against Hammond.

"I thought I played well," Washington said. "I felt I could've did more."

In speaking of doing more, sitting currently at 3-1, he feels that his team has what it takes to be a force to be reckoned with in the state.

This team is special," Washington said. "When we are at 100%, we can dominate as I already think our front seven is the best in the state. I feel like we played well so far. We need to pick up a little on offense and defense."

Washington and his teammates will get a chance to show their improvements Friday against rival Covington.

No matter what this track star and defensive back does, his attitude is that there is always room to improve.

"You know you gotta earn that respect and going out fighting for a spot is how you earn that respect," Washington said. "What separates me the most is my ability to put a play behind me after a bad play and using my eye technique."

With 4.5/40 speed, a good frame, great athletic ability, and a tough mental mindset, Justin Washington is a name to pay attention to as he has already shown he could line up one on one with some of the best these two football powerhouse states have to offer.

Jace is from Addis, LA but resides in Port Allen, LA. Jace has graduated recently from Southeastern Louisiana University with a major in Communications. Jace has also broadcasted games as a play by play announcer for Southeastern’s football and basketball games on ESPN Plus. Also, Jace has anchored and reported on Southeastern’s award winning show “The Big Game.” Finally, Jace has been hired to be the Voice of The Episcopal Knights for Varsity Sports Network. This is Jace’s fifth year as Associate Editor at Louisiana Football Magazine. He is also a graduate from Catholic High School in baton-rouge where he was the editor of the school newspaper the “Bearly Published.” While at CHS, Jace also announced their football, basketball, and baseball games for the Bruin Broadcast Network which is the Catholic High’s streaming website for their events. On weekends, Jace is the PA announcer for his middle school football games. At home, Jace enjoys time with his family and friends. Besides being a huge football fan, Jace is also an avid NHRA drag racing fan.
