Each year in Louisiana, I see at least five defensive backs—or more—who aren’t highly ranked nationally but have the potential to become excellent starters in Division I football and even have a shot at the NFL one day. Today, we’re highlighting Cam Riley, a senior defensive back from Neville High School in Monroe, Class of 2025.

I've seen Cam play three times, and he brings it every time. He has the athletic speed, sharp instincts, and great size (6'0", 170 pounds) to play strong safety or cornerback in college. What I like most about Cam is that he plays bigger than his frame and loves contact, coming downhill as a defensive back—a rare trait highly valued by colleges. He is currently committed to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL), and I believe UL got a steal in Cam because he has the talent to start at an SEC school. Besides football, Cam is also a star pitcher for Neville's baseball team, with a chance to play both sports at UL.

Cam is a multi-sport athlete who excels in football and baseball at Neville High School. He’s a joy to coach because he’s constantly striving to improve every day. His great instincts can’t be taught, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to help the team, whether on defense or special teams. UL is gaining a game-changer in the secondary and, more importantly, a remarkable young man,” said Neville's defensive coach, Reagan Wise.

Reflecting on his time at Neville, Cam shared, “My freshman year was also Coach Mike Collins’ first year at Neville. Our class has a really good relationship with Coach Collins, which makes everything flow easily. We know he won’t let us slack off in practice. This year, the whole coaching staff has come together seamlessly, making things easier for us on the field.”

In the last four years, Neville High School has helped Cam grow as both a player and a person. “Neville Nation shows a lot of love and support, giving us confidence on the field. We don’t want to let them down,” he added.

On his decision to commit early to UL, Cam explained, “I chose UL because they checked all my boxes and made me feel welcomed and at home like no other. I see the progress they’re making, and I want to be part of some great teams in the future.”
