Kaegan Kent

School: Evangel Christian High School, Class of 2025
Position: Kicker/Punter
The cities of Shreveport and Bossier have produced some exceptional kickers in Louisiana, including recent standouts like Parkway High School’s Aeron Burrell (LSU), John Chance from Captain Shreve (Louisiana Tech), and C.E. Byrd High School’s Abram Murray (Miami).
Today, we spotlight Kaegan Kent, a talented player and an inspiration to future kickers across the U.S. Kaegan, who attends Evangel Christian High School, was born in China and adopted at the age of 2½. Since then, he has developed into a top-tier kicker and role model.
Kaegan has been coached by his father, Marty Kent, a former Louisiana Tech kicker who holds multiple records and now trains some of the best high school kickers. Under his father’s guidance, Kaegan has consistently improved his skills and performance.
In Week 10 of this year, Kaegan kicked a game-winning 37-yard field goal to secure Evangel Christian’s 34th consecutive playoff appearance. His clutch performance highlights his composure under pressure.
Standing at 5'7" and weighing 152 pounds, Kaegan has shown remarkable growth since his freshman season. In 2024, his stats were impressive: he went 55/59 on extra points, 6/8 on field goals, and 6/20 on onside kicks.
Kaegan is one of the sleeper prospects in the Class of 2025. His work ethic, character, and potential make him an exciting recruit who will continue to develop in college.
Marty Kent on Coaching Kaegan:
"Coaching your son adds a unique dynamic. Emotionally, it’s different for both of us. The one big plus is that Kaegan trusts me because of my experience and track record. But when it comes time for correction, it can make things interesting. Technically, Kaegan is as sound as anyone I’ve coached, but that makes sense since he’s been around it his whole life.
It’s no secret that Kaegan is my son, but he was born in China. Some people assume he got my kicking genes, but the truth is that Kaegan has always gone the extra mile and worked harder than most. As a coach, I believe the best is yet to come for him. God has a special calling for his life, and Kaegan has always given God everything," said Marty Kent.
"The recruiting process has been a blessing. I’m so appreciative to be recruited by Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston State University, and Ouachita Baptist University. I’ve received offers from Sam Houston State and Louisiana Tech. All glory goes to God—I’ve been following His path and His will throughout this process," said Kaegan Kent.
"Ouachita Baptist is a D2 school, but I love the program and culture—it reminds me a lot of Evangel Christian. However, they don’t have many scholarships due to being a D2 school.
Sam Houston is a school I really like. I’ve built a great relationship with their special teams coordinator, and I love their weight program.
Louisiana Tech is my favorite of the three. My dad played there for four years and was an All-American. Pretty much my whole family has attended Louisiana Tech, so it’s more than just a college to me—it’s my second family. I feel at home when I’m there. Every time we visit, we run into someone my parents knew from college. It honestly feels like the best place for me right now.
I’ve attended two camps at Louisiana Tech—one at the end of my sophomore summer and another during my junior summer. At both camps, I performed well, missing only two field goals total, both from beyond 50 yards. What Louisiana Tech liked about me is my consistency as a kicker. My dad always taught me that consistency is the key, and it’s hard to beat out a kicker who is reliable," said Kaegan Kent.
