Spotlight Recruit: Sam Williams and D’tavion Wright

Class of 2025 Spotlight Recruits: LB Sam Williams & RB D’tavion Wright, Lincoln Prep High School

I recently had the chance to talk to Head Coach Glen Hall of Lincoln Prep High School in North Louisiana, located just a stone’s throw from Grambling State University’s football complex and field. Coach Hall is very high on two of his players, both of whom he considers sleepers for college programs.

Running back D’tavion Wright, a senior, rushed for over 1,100 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2024. Senior linebacker Sam Williams (6'0", 208 lbs), another sleeper prospect, transferred from Texas for his final high school season and averaged over 11 tackles per game in 2024 at Lincoln Prep. Sam is a two-time All-District and All-State linebacker who played for St. Pius High School in Houston, Texas, through his junior year.

Both of these athletes have the talent to play either DI or IAA football at many schools and are currently uncommitted for college.

Sam Williams’ Journey
"Coming from Houston, Texas, at St. Pius High School, I was ranked as one of the top five linebackers in the state for my class and was the preseason Player of the Year in my district," said Sam Williams. "Leaving my beloved school in Texas shocked me to the core because of everything I had invested in that school and the sense of pride I had for it.

"It didn’t take long, though, before I was fully immersed with my teammates and coaches at Lincoln Prep. They acknowledged me and accepted me for the person and player I am.

"So far, I’ve received recruiting offers from Grambling State, Tulsa, McNeese State, and UL Ragin’ Cajuns, but I’m still undecided about where I’ll go," Williams added.

D’tavion Wright’s Determination
"The recruiting process hasn’t been too busy yet, but I think a few schools will be reaching out soon," said D’tavion Wright. "This year was great for me, as I got to showcase my talents and prove myself to everyone, even those who doubted us.

"If any school recruits me right now, they won’t regret it. I’ll show them what Wrights are really about. I love getting opportunities to showcase my abilities, so when I get my chance, I’ll prove they’ve picked a great player."

D’tavion also shared that he has a strong athletic legacy in his family. "My family member Kenny Wright played college football at Northwestern State University and went on to play in the NFL. He was a fourth-round draft pick and played as a cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings, Texans, Jaguars, Redskins, and Browns.

"My family has always told me, ‘You’re a Wright, so go out there and play like one.’ And that’s exactly what I did. I showed them how tough we are and what Wrights are really about," D’tavion said proudly.
