Recruit Spotlight: 4 Big-Time St. Martinville High School Class of 2025 Players
It’s not every day you see a small-town high school with four sleeper Division 1 recruits in the same Class of 2025. This is the case for the St. Martinville High School football team.
I was able to visit St. Martinville High School in Week 2 of 2023 and observed a full practice in person. Even a year ago, I marked these players in my scouting notes as big-time talents:
- WR Makharee Narcisse – 6'2", 180 lbs
- CB Marcus Eichelberger – 6'0", 165 lbs
- DE Konnor Wiltz – 6'1", 240 lbs
- DT Landon Rhone – 6'2", 310 lbs
What stood out to me about these players is that they are all great athletes for their positions, displaying high energy and effort. This is yet another example of how the transfer portal is hurting high school football recruiting. Three years ago, these kids would already have offers and be committed to colleges.
It’s worth noting that this is the same program that produced notable players like Early Doucet (WR, LSU, and NFL quarterback in high school), Steven Blanco (RB, UL), and, more recently, Harvey Broussard (WR, UL Ragin’ Cajuns, now with Houston).
I spoke with Coach Damon DeRouen, who handles much of the day-to-day recruiting for his brother, Head Coach Vincent DeRouen. Coach Vincent is widely regarded as one of the top high school football coaches in Louisiana. Below are Coach Damon’s comments about his players:
- WR Makharee Narcisse: “One of the most competitive, hard-working players to come through the program. Played QB when the starter got hurt—no questions asked. It was a pleasure to coach him.”
- DE Konnor Wiltz: “A hard worker. Showed up every day ready to work. Good leadership. It was a pleasure coaching him.”
- DT Landon Rhone: “Has great physical attributes. Big, strong, and fast.”
- CB Marcus Eichelberger: “Good physical attributes. We always matched him up with the opponent’s best receiver.”
Said Coach Damon DeRouen, “These players represent St. Martinville High School Football with pride and determination.”
