East Ascension ATH Brennon Thompson
Head Coach Darnell Lee will be starting his 10th year at his alma mater, East Ascension High School. He played for both the Spartans and McNeese State where he was an All-Southland Conference defensive back in 1992.
“If we get the chemistry right and stay healthy, I feel like this team can make a run,” Coach Lee said. “We also return 4 starters on the offensive line. We will run the ball quite a bit in 2023.”
The key to this season like the coach said, is the chemistry but also great QB play. The new QB will be Hudson Browning is also an All-District catcher for the Spartans’ baseball team so you know he’s tough. Browning will have some talent around him in two-way starter WR/CB Jacorey Mitchell (5-10, 165, 4.4 speed) who is a four-year starter, RB Tajh Washington (5-10, 230) who is a powerful back, WR Jackson Chiasson (6-0, 178, Sr.) and two-way starter Brennon Thompson (6-0, 190), who is another four-year starter in the program with legit 4.45 speed. In my opinion, Thompson is one of the best athletes in the baton-rouge area as he can play running back, wide receiver and defensive back. There’s also two-way starter RB Joseph Hobdy (6-2, 230) a three-year starter and OLB/DE starter for the team, and RB Aaron Williams (5-9, 185) has some talent and will get his chance to shine in 2023. The offensive line has size and experience with OL Kendrell Green 6-1 285 SR tough strong kid, C/DT Aiden Joseph (5-11, 360, Sr.) who squats 610 pounds, OG/DT Kelvin Gray (6-3, 320) can move and one of the best linemen in the baton-rouge area, center Derez Queen (6-2 290 SR, OT Kolin Netter (6-2, 290, Sr.) with good feet and OT Bryson Martinez (6-6, 300) is a gifted player.
DE/OLB Camden Womack with Louisiana Football Magazine Owner/Publisher Lee Brecheen
The defense returns All-District DB Brennon Thompson (4.45 speed), All-District DT Kelvin Gray (6-3, 320) who can bench 445 pounds, DE Joseph Hobdy (6-2, 230, 4.6 speed, MLB ShaQuawn Isom (6-0, 220) big-time sleeper, DE/OLB Camden Womack (6-5, 215, 4.7 speed) who is a sleeper prospect, MLB Zhakery Jupiter (5-10, 210), three-year starter FS Lamar Bolden (5-9, 188), DT/FB Caleb Davis (5-10, 240) also great FB for the Offense, SS Tanner Stanga 3 year starter 5-10 180 All District in 2022 tough kid, SS/FS D’Ron McZeal (5-9, 165) smart tough kid with 4.5 speed, All-District ATH/CB Jacorey Mitchell (4.4 speed) will start in the secondary too and CB/nickel Bryce Harkless (5-8, 165, 4.4 speed). There’s new starter talented DT Nathan Allen (6-2, 255, Sr.), LB Tony Miles (5-11 210), LB JoeShane Wiltz (5-11, 190) and DE/DT Mervin Ragas (6-2, 235) all talented players will rotate in.
The special teams return talented Kicker Francisco Ramirez has a really good leg.
After last season, former East Ascension RB Walter Samuel signed with Memphis. while offensive lineman Chantz Banks signed with Northwest Mississippi Community .
