Archbishop Shaw Head Coach Hank Tierney on the Sports Scouting Report with Lee Brecheen

Head coach Hank Tierney is in the second year of his second tenure at Archbishop Shaw High School. Coach Tierney coached at Archbishop Shaw from 1983 to 2001 in his first tenure and he led the Eagles to its only state title in 1987. Coach Tierney also led Ponchatoula High School to a state title game in 2021, which was its first appearance since 1940.

"We have eight returning starters on defense, but we only return three starters on offense," Coach Tierney said. "However, we will return some very good young players. I really like our secondary with all four starters back in 2023 and I think we have improved from last year."

Archbishop Shaw OL Raymond Howard

The offense will be led by talented QB Mason Wilson, who has a good arm and can run if possible. The offensive line returns senior All-District OT Raymond Howard (6-2, 285 pounds) who is a four-year starter and big-time player with good feet. Howard is also committed to Air Force. The rest of the OL will be leader senior OT Brycen Punch (5-11, 226), center D’Artanian Miller (5-11, 250), OG Bryson Bustamante (5-11, 240), OG Adam LaMark (6-2, 306) and OG Carter Newsham (6-3, 225). The run game will be led by talented young players RB Jasper Parker (6-1, 190) and RB Darrell Hains (5-8, 160). The WR group is deep with players with some talent in returning starter Gavin Richard returning starter (5-9, 170), senior big-time ATH Cameron Marigny-Bolden (5-9, 155), new starter Jacob Washington 6-4 180, WR Stephen Houin 5-11 155, Ivan Smith 6-1 170, and WR Dennis Seal 6-4 155.

Archbishop Shaw DE Jayden Scott on the Sports Scouting Report with Lee Brecheen

The Defensive Line has a chance to be good and it is anchored by DE/DT Jayden Scott (6-4, 245) who is a talented kid with quickness off edge. Scott is committed to Tulane. The Eagles’ defensive line also includes senior DT Kilas Francis (6-2, 310) in the middle is tough to move and has good feet, returning starter senior DE Trevor Whitted (6-2, 245) and DE/OLB Sheldon Green (6-4, 200) who is a good athlete. The rest of the defense is senior LB Darelle McAfee (5-9, 187), LB/Safety Trystan Evans (5-11, 170), OLB Rontrae Carter (5-11, 170), OLB J’Quan Carter (5-10, 178), four-year starter safety Louis Foster (6-0, 175, 4.5 speed, Sr.), talented senior FS Jordan Evans (5-10, 170), senior CB Kardell Allen (5-8, 160) and senior CB Dallas Borne (5-9, 155) both really good athlete.

The special teams return kicker/punter Henry Zelaya (5-10, 160) who will look to have a big year in 2023. The return game has three players back as playmakers Gavin Richard, Louis Foster and Darrel Hains.
