“We have some guys with experience coming back,” said Assumption head coach Will Broussard. “We have to replace Marcus Mollere as well as three starters on the offensive line and on defense we will start four new players in the secondary. If we want to improve and contend for a District Title we will have to have some young guys step up.”

The program will put a very skilled offense on the field again in 2023. There are some impressive skill players back to keep an eye on this full season. ATH/WR Reece Turner (5-10, 170, 4.55 speed) to go along with big-time play-making ability in the open field. Reece started over three years and has a chance to become a big-time player in the end. There’s also RB Chase Jacobs (5-10, 225, Sr.) who has big-time power and deceptive speed to run for over 100 yards and then some every week. I think this kid will also have a big year for the program. The team also has two more running backs to get the ball to in RB Kaleb Davis (5-8, 175, 4.65 speed) but quick hitting the hole and small but tough RB Blaise Cavalier (5-3, 145, Sr.). Also at receiver is WR Braydin Gros (6-0, 165, Sr.) with good hands. The quarterback spot will be returning starter leader Landen Sanchez, who should have a great season after going through last year as the starter and getting that experience in a tough Class 4A district.

Assumption DE/LB Alfred Kennedy

The defense will rely on the strength of the linebacking group. They are led by LB Brody Robichaux (5-10, 198, 4.7 speed), a big-time leader and hitter, returning starter DE/LB Alfred Kennedy (6-1, 220, 4.78 speed), who is another big-time leader for the team and DE/LB Daimar Gustave (5-8, 215, 4.8 speed, Sr.) who is as tough as nails and a leader on this team.

The Mustangs have an incredible tradition of running the football. One of the all-time greats I saw play at Assumption High School in person was RB Brandon Jacobs (6-4, 260), who will go down as one of the most talented big backs to ever come out of Louisiana in my opinion. Brandon played at Auburn and Southern Illinois. Then had a pretty good career in the NFL where he won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants in 2007 and 2011.
