2023 Louisiana Prep Football Preview: Belaire High School

Belaire Bengals

By Lee Brecheen

Head Coach: Byron Wade (4th year)

2022 Record: 2-8

Class & District: Class 4A (District 6)

Head Coach Byron Wade is one of the hardest working coaches in the baton-rouge area that I have talked to over the last few years. Coach Wade does a great job with what he has every year and his teams compete in a very tough district.

Lefty QB Mornear Johnson has a great arm and a strong IQ of the game. The Bengals also have LeBron Stewart Athlete (5-10, 170, Sr.), who can play multiple positions WR/FS & QB for the team. Key skill players back are All-District RB Javion Morgan (5-10, 190, Sr.) has power and speed and RB/DB Semaj Hatten (5-9, 165, Sr.) with 4.5 speed also can play WR for the team. You also have CB/FS Trevon Frank 6-0 175 missed the 2022 season from an injury and is healthy now with 4.5 speed, WR/RB/SS Caleb Joseph (5-10, 185) and second-year starter CB/WR Tyriek Blair (6-0, 180) for a team with legit 4.45 speed.

Key players in the trenches to lead this team are leader OL/DL Christian Hill (6-3, 290, benches 410 pounds) has the talent you are looking for, senior OL/DT Kedrick Daniels (6-0, 285) who is one of the team captains who Coach Wade calls “The Dancing Bear”, second-year starter OT/DL Jordell Baise (6-3, 245) and All-District DE JaQuan Whattaker (6-0, 195, Sr.) who had 7.5 sacks in 2022.
