Head Coach: Hoff Schooler (7th year)

2022 Record: 6-5

Class & District: Class 4A (District 6)

2022 Playoffs: Lost to Abbeville 36-14 in 1st Round of Division II (Non-Select) Playoffs

“We had a lot of young players play for us in 2022 for us,” said Brusly head coach Hoff Schooler. “We have to build off the kids getting experience in 2022 on both sides of the football. Since we have a small senior class in 2023, we hope to gel and get them ready for all the Friday nights coming up. We have worked hard this off season as a team to get ready.”

Brusly DE Phillip Mason

The offense will be led by a strong, athletic and experienced offensive line. The players who return and will make huge holes for the run game are OL Thomas Dupree (6-3, 300) who is lean with his weight and a strong tough kid, and his brother, Mason Dupree (6-3, 275) who has some of the same attributes with good feet. The offensive line will also be led by new starter Z’Khi Provo (6-0, 245) with a strong wrestling background.

The run game will be led by Patrick Gales, who can run a legit 4.4 forty. Gales was invited to the National Junior Olympics in Oregon in the 200 meters & 100 meters for track. They also have second-year starter Craivez Oxley (5-10, 180) returning as well and he has both power and speed. The new starting QB will be Cordell Oxley, who has a good arm, can run and started the playoff game in 2022 for the program so he has game experience going into the 2023 season.

The passing game starts with TE Cody Loupe (6-3, 235) who has great hands, runs a 4.6 forty and squats over 400 pounds. I think he is one of the best tight ends in Louisiana. They also have WR Darion Bennett with 4.5 speed and talented WR/TE/QB Coy Purpera, who will also compete at QB and play all three spots listed as a starter for the team.

Brusly DE Alvin Watts

The defense will be led by a strong defensive line, and this unit has the chance to become one of the best ever at the school in the end. You have DE Ricky Critney (6-1, 230), senior DE Brennan Williams (6-2, 230) who is very talented, DE Phillip Mason (6-4 , 245) & DE Steven Westley (6-4, 250). The front also has talented linebackers in Brayden Ray, who is a second-year starter and is the catcher for the baseball team as well, and Sam Johnson (6-0, 190). The defensive backfield has size and tough players with speed led by CB Cyren Oxley (5-9, 165, 4.5 speed), SS/FS Alvin Watts (6-1, 185) and senior SS/CB/OLB Jorden Woods (6-0 185), who can play any spot in the secondary as well as some OLB for the team. Woods brings the wood and is a three-year starter for the program.
