“We changed the offense from double wing-T to a spread in 2023," said first-year Catholic of Point Coupee head coach Jacob Carruth. "We have a great senior class of kids. The transition for me was easy. We have the kids to make a run in the playoffs again in 2023.”

The Hornets have had a tough start to the season as they currently have a 1-2 record with losses to Bunkie and Liberty Magnet but they did pick up a resounding 36-6 victory over Independence last week.

I had a chance to see his team play three weeks ago in their jamboree game. I came away super impressed with the talent and coaching. Four-year QB/FS Hayden Elliott (5-11, 185, 4.55 speed)is a game changer tough kid with talent you can't coach and has a really good arm. Elliott missed the first game of the season because of an injury and maybe the second game. This team needs him healthy to make that run.

The offense also has a good amount of playmakers in WR/DB/QB Jude Morrison has great ball skills and will most likely be the quarterback next season. Morrison is getting starts already this year which will pay off in the future. There’s returning starter WR/S Hudson Moore (6-1, 180, 4.55 speed, Sr.) who is also a safety for the team, WR/DB Brooks Capps (4.45 speed) one of the best players on the team, WR/DB Thomas Odom (6-1, 180, 4.55 speed), four-year starter senior ATH Parker Jewell, returning starter WR/CB James Saizon is a playmaker with 4.55 speed, new starter WR/DB Myka Nipple (4.5 speed) and RB/DE Cooper Laviolette (5-11, 180, 4.6 speed). The offensive line you have a tough unit lead by returning starter OC/DE Jackson Jewell (5-10, 245, Sr.), OT/DT Rory Lambert (6-5, 290) who has big-time upside, senior OT Cameron Devillier, FB/LB Luke Vosburg (6-1, 190), OG/LB Tanner Stevens (5-10, 210, Sr.) who is a strong tough kid and OL/DE Ethan Capps (6-2, 245) coming off injury from the 2022 season healthy now great player returning starter.

Everyone mentioned up will play on defense. Here’s more players I saw in the Jamboree that will make an impact on the team on defense, LB Carson Crabtree (4.65 speed), DB Cohen Higginbotham (4.6 speed), LB Zane Sonnier and senior DT Carter Walker.

The special teams will be a strong part of the team too. The Hornets have two kickers: Hayden Elliott and Cohen Higginbotham. Punter is Jude Morrison. Long Snappers are Jackson Jewell & Colby Canezaro. The return game will have two of the best returners in Class 1A in Hudson Moore and Brooks Capps who both can take it to the house anytime or moment.

Coach Carruth is new but made an impression on me in the game I attended this year. Coach Carruth is a graduate of Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport (Class of 2014) and went to at both LSU-Shreveport and Louisiana Tech. The whole Football staff is new in 2023.
