2023 Louisiana Prep Football Preview: Central LaFourche High School (Raceland)
Central Lafourche Trojans
Head Coach: Shelly Vedros (2nd year)
2022 Record: 2-8
Class & District: Class 5A & District 7
The Central Lafourche Trojans are currently 0-5 on the season. The Trojans have had a rough time gaining stability in the program as they have had four coaches in the last three years. I still hope they can find a way to improve on their 2-8 mark in 2022 and they still have a chance to do that. If the young guys stick together, the program can turn the corner soon.
The program can build around some quality linemen on both sides of the football. There are a few young linemen too which is exciting for the program. Some key players include center Kaden Adams (6-0, 310, Sr.) as good as any center in Louisiana with great feet, three-year starter DE/DT Jacquez Lawson (6-2, 240, Sr.), DE Shane Williams (6-0, 240, Sr.) tough & strong player, DT Johntraz Payne (6-0, 240, Sr.). Then there are some of the young linemen that this program can build around like DE Victor Ellison (5-11, 210), OT Darreion Charles (5-11, 230), OL Landon Girouard (5-9, 215), OL Da’Mon Thomas (5-8, 250), OL Cameron Legendre, OL Jett Le and Grady Lawson to name a few of the young guys.
The Trojans have two quarterbacks in Makia Slayton (5-11, 155, Sr.) and Jeremy Cleveland, who is a talented young player with a great future.
The rest of the skill spots you have RB Drew Washington, RB Robert Day, WR Mason Sherrill (6-5, 195, Sr.) who is a sleeper with hands, SS Cohon Champagne (5-10, 155), CB Clarence Clement (6-1, 160), CB Simeon Robinson (6-1, 175), FS/SS/OLB Cameron Hunter (6-0, 185) and HB/SS/LB Porter Zeringue (6-0, 200, Sr.), leader SS/LB Kendall Liner (5-9, 170, Sr.), gifted safety Timaja Gale (6-2, 185), RB/SS/OLB Ryan Naquin (5-8, 190, Sr.) and all-out OLB/SS Talan Bonvillain (5-8, 175).
I have great respect for Shelly Vedros for coming back in his second year as the coach of these Trojans. After talking to Coach Vedros over the phone this summer, I could tell it was important for him to bring stability to the program by coming back and helping the Trojans program get back after a few down years.
