“I was the defensive coordinator for Comeaux in 2022 so I know the players coming in as the head coach,” new Comeaux High School head coach Marquest Newsome. “I feel like the offense will be improved with Coach Paige in charge in 2023. We will have a balanced offense in 2023: 50/50 pass and run.”
The offense will have a chance to be talented overall. The quarterback spot is strong with senior Jayden Sonnier (5-8 175) who is one of the leaders on the team and is committed to getting better every day. You also have QB/WR Dayton Broussard (6-1, 190) coming back from an injury in 2022 which gives the team two great options all year long. Broussard can start at WR if he isn’t playing quarterback for the team in 2023 with 4.6 speed.
The rest of the offense returns some very talented players in RB Tre Roy (5-9, 217) leaner in 2023 power/speed, WR Tristian Smith (5-10, 160, 4.45 speed), WR/CB DeKenzie Solomon (5-8, 160, 4.5), RB/WR Alex Landry (5-8, 155, 4.5), FB/RB/TE/LB Colin Leger (6-1, 220) who is a big-time player returning from a injury in 2022 and is a sleeper recruit, WR/RB/SS/ Trey Thompson (5-9, 170) is a good athlete who runs track for Comeaux as well and WR/CB/SS Hodges Brown (5-9, 165, 4.5 speed) is another sleeper recruit on this team. sleeper. The offensive line has some talent and some of these kids will start both sides of the line in OL/DT Jakaylan Harrison (65 tackles, 13 TFL, 65 tackles & 11 pass breakups), who was named the MVP of the defense in 2022, OG Jamiel Bates (6-1, 300), OL/DL John Bernard (6-3, 315) who is recovering from an injury in the spring but should be ok come fall, OT Dylan Sam (6-5, 235) and there will be younger lineman competing for time as well.

The defense will return a few starters from the above two-way starters plus, DE Tre Jacquet (6-0, 228) who is quick off the edge, DE/LB Javen Harrison (6-1, 225, 4.79 speed), DT/DE Cade Smith (5-9, 235) who is a second-year starter and a hard worker, safety Alex Simon (5-7 135 4.5) who is a tough kid, new starter CB Judah Castille (5-9, 155) who lettered in 2022 new starter and FS Akeem Demouche lettered in 2022 new starter a lot of ability.
On special teams, you have a new starting kicker/punter Lathan Keely who has a good leg.
The 2023 class for Comeaux had two players sign to s: WR Jaylon Domingeaux (Southeastern) and Kyran Bernard (Wisconsin River Falls).
This is a program that always has had great players and some history with alumni like former longtime NFL WR Brandon Stokley, TE Kyle Kipps (LSU), and current All-American LSU WR Malik Nabers (who went to Southside High School for his senior year but did not play due to being ruled ineligible by the LHSAA).
