“We finally recovered from being young as this is the first large senior class since Covid. We have 22 Seniors in 2023. A lot of experience and back chance to win a lot of games.
The Lions have a good gunslinger in QB Jerome Elzy (6-0, 190) who is your traditional drop-back passer with a really good arm and has experience as well. The run game has a very underrated back returning in RB/LB David Harris (6-0, 210) who ran for 1,293 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2022. The run game also has RB/CB Kylen Williams (5-10, 180, 4.5 speed) who ran for over 500 yards in the 2022 season in his first year playing varsity. The passing game will look to WR Brandon March (6-1, 170, Sr.) who is a converted safety and WR Jayshawn Martin (6-2, 180) who has gotten bigger and faster in 2023 to set up for a big year in the offense. The offense also returns WR/DB Justin Chatman (5-10, 180) missed the 2022 season with an injury. The offensive line returns talented C/OT/DE Lawson Champagne (6-5, 265) a three-year starter, OT Abram Lewis (6-7, 295), second-year OL Cameron McCann (6-2, 260) and the rest of the offensive line are battles among younger players to make this unit one of the best in the District.

The defense will be led by LB Chase Blackwell (5-9, 190) who is a returning starter with 76 tackles in 2022, OLB Connor Farris (6-1, 185) who has 54 tackles with 11 for loss and MLB Joshua Henderson (5-9, 205). There's also three-year starter DT/NG Jamanti Bush (5-11, 345) quicker and stronger in 2022 three-year starter leader and second-year CB Jeremy Elzy. Several players from the offense will get reps on defense like Lawson Champagne (6-5, 265), SS Brandon Coakley, when not at QB, David Harris, Justin Chapman and Kylen Williams.
Coach Salter is the grandson of the Hall of Fame Coach Jack Salter who was the head coach at Covington High School for many years.
