2023 Louisiana Prep Football Preview: Erath High School

Erath Bobcats

By Lee Brecheen

Head Coach: Eric LeBlanc (6th year)

2022 Record: 8-4

Class & District: Class 3A (District 5)

2022 Playoffs: Defated Eunice 34-30 in 1st Round, Lost to West Feliciana 34-30 in 2nd Round of Division III (Non-Select) Playoffs

The program is currently as of writing preview 0-3 on the season in three close non-district games against playoff teams North Vermillion High School (23-15), Loreauville High School (45-34) and Catholic-New Iberia (25-23). I don’t think anyone should panic because this will make the team stronger with a lot of power points and still undefeated in the district. Coach LeBlanc took the program to the playoffs in 2021 with a 7-4 record.

The Program has some big-time hidden talents in QB Lynkon Romero (6-3, 200, Sr.) who is a strong-armed three-year starter who is in line for I think a monster season. RB Blake Dautreuil (6-0, 185, 4.55) has three years of starting experience. You have WR/DB leader Christian Pillette (5-10, 175, 4.5 speed, Sr.) who is a big-time two-way starter for the program with at least three years. There’s also RB Mason Hebert (5-6, 190) who is a bowling ball with feet in the open field with experience again returning starter so tough to tackle in the open field. There are also All-District candidate players like three-year starter Bo Lancon (6-0, 165, Sr.) and two-way starter returning starter WR/SS Cameron Soirez (5-10, 155, 4.6 speed) playmaker for the team too. The leader of the trenches for this program, three-year starter Ryan Fobbs (6-2, 285) with great feet and really strong returns for both sides of the football very underrated recruit in the Lafayette/ Metro area.

More players to keep a eye on are CB/WR Payton Pickens (5-11, 160), WR/CB Coty Broussard (5-10, 172), MLB/TE Luke Etie (6-1, 190), returning starter, TE/SS/LB Griffin Leblanc 6-0 205, RB/WR Landon Lemaire (4.6 speed) and WR/CB Treyvan Williams (5-8, 160, Sr.). There are many new starters on the offensive and defensive line that we can talk about later on but did not want to leave one player out going into this season.

On special teams, young Grant Ford looks to handle both the kicking and punting duties for the program.

I think head coach Eric LeBlanc and his staff do an incredible job with the development of players with a coaching staff full of die-hard alums mostly with this program. I’ve been to a game at Erath High School, and let me tell you it’s as loud as any Stadium I’ve been to in the Lafayette area. The town of Erath loves its Bobcats!
