Grand Lake High School head coach Jeff Wainwright took this young program to the state title game in 2020 where the Hornets fell to Oak Grove High School. After talking to Coach Wainwright, Grand Lake High School after talking to coach has such a huge passion for the school and its sports teams. The Grand Lake’s home game attendance averages close to 1,500 fans a game which is truly amazing at home games. The Grand Lake coaching staff has a veteran in Hayes Picou coaching at the ripe age of 75 in 2023. Another veteran on this staff is Eddie Benoit was from the old South Cameron High School staff for many years under legendary head coach Perry LaLonde.

“The question mark is that we are young on the offensive & defensive Lines,” Coach Wainwright said. “A lot of kids are competing over the summer and through the fall it’s been good. We are deep in our running back rotation of players for the offense.

The Grand Lake program is one of the best in the State using 15 to 20 players to compete with anyone in Class 2A year after year. Key players back are senior QB/OLB Kaden Taylor (6-2, 200) who is a two-way starter and great athlete, senior RB/LB Ian Vigo (5-9, 175), senior RB/CB Brent Hardesty (6-0, 175) who is a tough kid all out, OL/DL Wyatt Wilkerson (5-8, 180) plays OL/DL for team,SS/RB/WR Kealan Bell (5-8, 170) coming back from a injury in 2022, RB/FS Brycen Guillory (5-9, 175) who is a big-time leader for the team, OG/DT Zayne Armentor (5-10, 210) lettered in 2022 new starter, WR/DB Tate Wainwright (Coach's son) is a good athlete, senior DB/WR Gage Bang (5-9, 160) and MLB/TE Ezra Fontenot (6-0, 195) who is a great athlete for this program and he is also on the track and field team for the school as well.
