“We have one returning starter back on our offensive line, Hammond High School head coach Dorsett Buckles said. “We also have no returning starting linebackers and a new starting QB. However, we have young talented linemen who will have to step up in 2023. We are excited with over 70 players out for the fall season.

The new starting QB on offense will be talented freshman Terin Jones who has a lot of upside. The skill talent on offense still has talent and speed led by RB Chris Dunn (5-9, 185), RB Eli Johnson (5-10, 205) who missed most of his junior year and has a chance to be special in 2023, WR/DB Kenyatta Fleet (6-2, 185, 4.45 speed), three-year starter WR Leon Winsberry (5-8, 165) with 4.45 speed, and TE/HB Broderick Peters (6-2, 205). The offensive line has three-year starter Nyieen Addison (6-1, 310), OL Jamir Francis (6-0, 300) and senior OL Shane Gardner (6-1, 270) who returns after missing the 2022 season with an injury.

The defense will be led by its defensive line which includes DT Darius Serbick (6-2, 280), senior DE/DT Israel Amacker (6-1, 265) who has improved and OLB/DE Jaden Johnson (6-0, 190, 4.6 speed. The defensive backfield is led by senior Jermaine Davis (5-10, 165, 4.5 speed) and DB Javeon Jones (5-9, 180, 4.6 speed) who is a big-time sleeper recruit in this state.

For the special teams, you have punter/kicker Nick Bartee (5-8, 160) with a good leg starting.

Head coach Dorsett Buckels went to high school at Amite High School, where he was an All-State LB and signed with LSU. Coach’s brother, Carlton Buckels, is also a former LSU football player where he played DB and is a long-time current football coach.
