2023 Louisiana Prep Football Preview: Highland Baptist Christian School

Head Coach: Rick Hutson (5th year)

2022 Record: 2-8

Class & District: Class 1A (District 7)

“We started 2-0 in the 2022 season but our QB got hurt and ended up losing some tough games down the road in 2022,” Highland Baptist head coach Rick Hutson. “We only have 110 kids in the High School in 2023. We do return a really good group of wide receivers in 2023.”

Update, the program is currently 0-3 in 2023 with a ways to go and just getting into district play.

The offense returns QB Parker Perry, who got hurt in 2022 and this gives the program a leader with experience back, a three-sport athlete for the school. Other players back to help on offense & defense are DB/WR Blayde White (5-11, 175, Sr.), a two-time All-District player and leader for the program, FB/LB Charles Dartez (6-0, 195) who was a second-team All-District player in 2022, WR/TE Quentin Martin (6-2, 210), second-year starter OL/DL Lagan Savoie (5-10, 170), second-year starter OL/DL Peyton Ogea (6-1, 230,), second team All-District RB Austin Stafford wi 600 yards in 2022, second-year starter LB Luke Bordelon, DB Rowan Charpentier (5-9, 160), CB Garrett Barras (5-11, 165, Sr.) who is a new starter but lettered in 2022, WR/RB Andrew Perry, with 4.5 speed and is also the team’s kicker, DT/OC Kyron Leblanc and new starter Luke Bordelon both having good years so far in 2023.

Head Coach Rick Hutson spent 20 years as Head coach of New Iberia High School. This is his 40th year as a coach in 2023. Coach’s first job was at St. Frederick in Monroe from 1985 to 1989. Coach Hutson hired Corey Raymond in his first coaching high school job at New Iberia High School. Raymond is now the defensive back coach for the Florida Gators and was the longtime defensive backs coach at LSU. Coach Hutson’s dad coached for 10 years at the famous Texas Odessa Permian High School, which is what the movie Friday Night Lights is based on. His dad is also in the Houston Coaches Hall of Honor. Coach Hutson graduated from Hope High School in the state of Arkansas in (Class of 1980).
