“We had a great season last year as we won district and we won nine straight games,” Iota head coach Ray Aucoin said. “However, we lost 23 seniors from the 2022 team who graduated, including two-time All-State LB Dayton Duhon and All-State OL/DL Hanz LaCasse.”

The Bulldogs return some very impressive players in 2023. The offense will rely on the leadership of QB Peyton Renfro (6-0, 184, 4.6 speed) who has a big-time arm. The run game has several players who can break runs in the open field like senior RB Jacob Cormier (5-9, 165) has great hands and 4.5 speed, RB Landon Duhon (6-0, 180, 4.6 speed), RB Connor Fruge (5-8, 180) who has both power and speed as well as some other young players rotating in. The passing game has some outstanding receivers in WR/FS Dylan Callahan 6-2 185 SR 4.5 speed hands the whole package, All-District TE/WR/DB Ezekiel Wall who can also play some QB for the team, WR Jayce Lanthier (5-10, 160, 4.6 speed) and senior WR Landon Roy (6-1, 155) who is a leader on this team. Key offensive linemen coming back are Lane Turner (6-2, 265), OL Seth Leckelt (5-10, 220) and All-District senior TE/FB Austin Hebert (5-11, 198) in baseball in 2022 and new starter.

The Defense will be young but leaders do return in All-District LB Jackson Scott (5-9, 185) who is a tough kid, DE Trevor Ruffner (5-10, 230) who is a big-time strong in the trenches, DT/FB Brock Keltner (5-9, 200, 4.9 speed) who has a high motor, LB Lance Beasley (5-10, 185), two-way starter FS Dylan Callahan, two-way starter DB Ezekiel Wall and senior CB Blayton Fontenot (5-9, 165).

The special teams unit returns one of the best punters in Louisiana Blayton Fontenot who was an honorable mention All-State punter in 2022. Fontenot can help this team in close games this year by making the opponent score on long drives because of his cannon leg. The special teams also return a talented young kicker in Patrick Aton.
