The 2022 season was special for the Iowa High School program as the Hornets went all the way to the semifinals. The program has had some great seasons under head coach Tommy Johns, who does a great job with his staff coaching up and developing his players in the program year in and year out.
Iowa is currently 2-2 right now as the Yellow Jackets had a very tough non-district slate. Iowa lost against Iota and Leesville but defeated Rayne and Jennings.
The offense is led by second-year starter QB Cole Corbello (6-2, 200, Sr.), 2nd year starter at QB with great skills. Iowa’s key skill players include two-way starter WR/OLB Joe Natali (6-0, 180) who is a three-year starter and one of the leaders on this team, RB/WR Cohen Charles (6-0, 175) who is a converted safety, WR Ryland Miller (6-0, 200, Sr.) and WR/RB Jonathan Walker (5-9, 175) who is a three-year starter with 4.6 speed and is a playmaker at both of his positions.
Key lineman back is TE/DE Luke Guillory (6-3, 240) who is a three-year starter leader, OG Damien Reed (6-2, 275, Sr.) is a returning starter big-time player, OL Aiden Gubanesik (6-0, 200), OC/OG Jude Guiilory (5-11, 215), new starter Cole Fulton (6-2, 275), new starter DE Andrew Duhon (6-3, 200) who lettered in 2022, DE Tyler LaVergne (5-10, 205) who lettered in 2022, DT Ethan Desjardine (5-11, 215), DE/DT Kain Fulton (5-11, 210, Sr.) and DE/OLB JaMarcus Jones (6-1, 195, 4.65 speed).
The rest of the defense starters are safety Christian Landry (5-9, 175, Sr.), LB Austen Latour (5-11, 205, Sr.), CB Reed Dupre (5-10, 165), two-way starter Joe Natali (6-0, 180, Sr.), CB C.J Bellow has a great future, CB Jamar Deville returning starter with 4.55 speed and a few young players mixed in to give depth to a young overall Defense.
On special teams, you have a quality kicker/punter in Matthew Vest (5-9, 155, Sr.) who has a good leg for the program.
Two former Yellow Jacket players who are doing a great job in currently are starting LSU safety Andre Sam and Purdue WR Curtis Deville who starts for the Boilermakers. Curtis did not play in the bowl game against LSU in 2022 because he was healing from an injury.
