The Swamp Owls changed their offense from a spread to split veer going from pass to a running offense in 2023. We return 14 starters and all the defensive line from the 2022 season. Another strong spot on the team is the offensive line.

Because last year’s starting quarterback Julian Carona is out for the year, QB Kam Green will be the starter this season. Green has the stuff needed to become a really good QB in time. You also have WR/DB Braylon Byrd, a second-year starter at WR/DB who can get snaps at QB if need be and there’s also ATH Jamar Hodges (5-9, 172), another great player who can play all over the field with 4.6 speed. The run game will have RB Gage Bertel (5-9, 180) who can bench press 300 pounds, Grace King transfer RB Joshua Alexander (6-0, 180, Sr.) and RB Edgard Perdomo. The offensive line you have several players like second-year starter C Ethan Schoen (6-2, 280, Sr.), who is one of the team captains, second-year starter OT Melvin Licona (6-3, 270), OG Ethan Domingine (5-10, 280), OT/OG Ray Hernandez (5-9, 210), OT Christopher Reyes (5-10, 225) who is coming off an injury that caused him to miss the 2022 season, TE Lionel Johnson (6-3, 217, Sr.) and TE Antonio Castro (6-4, 190).

The Defense you have new starter DE Braydon Fehn (5-10, 205) who lettered in 2022, LB Evan Danove (5-10, 215) who benches 340, three-year starter LB Spencer Newton (6-0, 218, Sr.) who is also a team captain, OLB/FS Cameron Gardner (6-1, 190) with 4.5 speed who is a sleeper recruit who had 11 interceptions in the last two years combined, DT Baron Von-Antz (6-1, 250), DT Kevine Green (5-9, 225), three-year starter DE Zaid Abdallah (6-1, 230, Sr.), second-year starter DE Ronald Alcindor (5-9, 195), CB Kendrick Powell (5-11, 175) who has 4.55 speed and was All-District in 2022, FS Jordan Andrus (5-10, 170) with a 4.6 forty, CB/SS McKinley Perry (5-9,165) and second-year starter SS/OLB Chris Burse (5-11, 160).

On special teams, second-year punter/kicker Thomas Rumbelow (6-0, 170), is a second year starter with a strong leg.

Head coach Phillip Sprunk graduated from John Curtis High School (Class of 2003) where he played under legendary head coach J.T. Curtis. Coach Sprunk continued his playing career at Louisiana (now Louisiana Christian) and professionally for the arena football team called the Odessa Roughnecks as a Fullback/Center.
