2023 Louisiana Prep Football Preview: Lake Charles Prep
Lake Charles Prep Trailblazers
Head Coach: Erick Franklin (10th year)
2022 Record: 5-7
2022 Class & District: Class 3A (District 3)
2022 Playoffs: Defeated Catholic (New Iberia) 26-7 in 1st Round, Lost to Notre Dame 41-40 in 2nd Round of Division III (Select) Playoffs.
The Lake Charles Prep Trailblazers currently have a 3-2 record in the 2023 season. Their two losses were against Westgate and Opelousas who are two of the best teams in Class 4A. This is a young team after losing several prospects to graduation in the last two years. The program has a bunch of future star players getting experience to make this group strong for years to come.

The offense has several options at running back, a good problem to have, with players like RB Dy’len Rubin (5-10, 195) who squats 500 pounds, RB Allen Botley and RB Jardon Thompson. The quarterback poisition currently has a freshman under center in Dylan Vital who has completed 20/29 passing attempts with 246 yards and three touchdowns through his first three starts.
There’s a lot of talent at the skill positions. It is highlighted by four-year starter FS/WR Erick Franklin Jr., who is the coach’s son. He is a big-time player averaging at least eight tackles per game. You also have WR/DB Elijah Garrick (6-2, 180) who is a two-year starter and sleeper recruit, three-year starter CB/WR Braylon White (6-0, 175, Sr.), second-year starter WR Kyrian Gaskins (6-1, 185), WR Alijah Pete, OL Micah Louis (5-8, 265), OT Jeremiah Freeman (6-2, 265) and other young lineman to build depth now and the future.
The Defense has a few two-way starters from the offense plus second-year starter CB Michael Ned (5-11, 170), DT/NG Karsen Graham (6-4, 400), DE Bryce Richard (6-2, 215) who is averaging close to ten tackles a game, OLB Elijah Simon (6-2, 205) who in the first 3 games of the season has 24 tackles, CB Cameron Hill (6-2, 170, Sr.), new starter CB/FS Careion Franklin (5-8, 155), DB Cameron Brazzle (6-1, 185) and DB Myrtis Dightman (Sr.).
Coach Franklin does a great job with the program and it’s no secret outside of St. Louis Catholic High School, Barbe High School and a handful of other programs. They have been the most talented team in the city of Lake Charles in the past few years.
