Madison Prep head coach Landry Williams went to high school at Glen Oaks High School(Class 1991). and then became a star WR for Southern. I think the coach and his staff do a great job in developing players and young coaches who have left the program to become head coaches under his direction.

“I’m proud of the way we competed this summer,” Williams said. “In June we had 95 % of the team attend workouts and the guys are committed to working hard. We like our chances in 2023 and we also run the levee to stay in shape and make sure these kids are ready for a long tough season.”

The Chargers will be as talented as any team in Class 3A skill-wise again in 2023. The offense will be led by strong-armed second-year QB Tylan Johnson in 2023. Like in the past seasons, the star skill guys on offense will also start a lot on defense and it has worked for the program for several years.

The wide receiver room is talented and it is led by WR/FS Hezekiah Dantzler 6-1 175 SR 4.5 speed, gifted WR Calvin Spears (6-3, 210), WR Andre Gibson (5-9, 160, 4.4 speed), WR Keyon Robinson (4.6 speed), WR Jarvis Washington (4.5 speed) who is special and future QB Landon Johnson (4.4 speed) is a WR who will be a part of the rotation in 2023.

The run game will be deep and strong too as it is led by Alfred McKnight (5-10, 185, 4.59 speed), RB Jeremiah Wills (5-11, 170, 4.45 speed), Tony Lewis (5-9, 180) who is a big-time leader with 4.5 speed and great vision does it all at RB. Talented CB Keilan Sherman (4.4 speed) will get reps as well along with RB Sage Ingram (5-10, 198, 4.5 speed). The offensive line though young overall is very talented with several players getting reps outside of experience players center Henri Bell (6-6, 315) sleeper recruit, OL Darnell Smith (6-3, 315), OL Bruce Morris (6-3, 270) and OG Robert Walker (6-2, 280).

The defense will be talented once again for the Chargers. Upfront, you have three-year starter DT/FB Ethan Clark (6-0, 240, 4.8 speed), MLB Jonathan Profit (5-11, 210) who is a smart leader, DE Taron Cage (6-2, 225), senior DT Jordan Agillard (6-2, 260) who is a sleeper recruit, OLB Kejuan Eckles (6-0, 225) and OLB/DB Calvin Spears (6-3, 210). The defensive backfield will have talented CB Dearbray Hartford 6-1 170 4.5 speed, CB Keilan Sherman (5-11, 180, 4.45 speed), SS/FS Javien Holmes (6-2, 185), future D1 safety Hezekiah Dantzler 6-1 175, and Athlete/DB Landon Johnson.

The special teams will be led by athlete Calvin Spears as the team's kicker while the punter position wide open going into the fall.

Several players graduated to move on to from the 2023 class in WR/FS Treylan James (Prairie View), David Jones (Grambling), OLB/DE Markeis Batiste (Southern), MLB Ahmad Lewis (Arkansas-Monticello), and TE Thomas Davis (walking on at Grambling).

Former Charger players, such as LSU DE Quency Wiggins and safety Major Burns along with UL Lafayette QB Zeon Chriss, all should have big years in 2023. The most famous football alumni from Madison Prep currently has to be current NFL DT Malcolm Roach who played for Texas.
