2023 Louisiana Prep Football Preview: Metairie Park Country Day (Metairie)
Country Day Cajuns
By Lee Brecheen
Head Coach: Christopher Chetta (2nd year)
2022 Record: 6-6
Class & District: Class 2A & District 10
2022 Playoffs: Lost to University High 43-0 in 2nd Round of Division III (Select) Playoffs.
“We have a lot of young unproven talent that will get opportunities.” Head coach Christopher Chetta said. “Lost a big senior class from the 2022 season. We have a small junior/senior class. Hard-working kids buying into what we're trying to create. We have leaders coming back.”
The program has 2 quarterbacks with a lot of experience in Sinnott Bland (5-10, 175, 4.6 speed, Sr.), who is also a wide receiver when not at quarterback and then there’s QB McAllister Callejo (6-0, 188). Both are great players for the program and both can help in many spots when not at the QB position. There are a few players back at skill spots, most starting both sides of the football. Some more skill leaders back are second-year starterCB/WR Brock Masson (5-10, 170), RB Brent Schwing, RB Iggy Young, RB Justin Drago, WR/DB Hudson Wright who is a hard worker with high IQ for the game and WR Mason Snyder (6-0, 165, Sr.) who has great hands.
Key linemen and linebackers back for the program will be the key for the rest of the season with players like MLB/DT/FB Casey Rizzo (5-11, 225, Sr.), OC/LB Cameron Rizzo (5-10, 180), OL/DT Henry Thompson (6-2, 275), OG/DL Brody Cummings, who can play anywhere on the defensive line, OT/DT Hagan Mimeles (6-3, 268, Sr.) who squats 410 pounds and is a sleeper as a recruit and FB/LB Owen Marchal (5-11, 180, 4.6 speed, Sr).
For the special teams, you have Kicker George Blessey who has a very good leg for a young kicker.
Head coach Christopher Chetta is one of the more high-energy coaches I’ve ever spoken to. He cares about his team and players. Country Day gets the most out of their players every year. The program had three special players go to for football for the 2023 season, RB Jack Schwing (Southern Mississippi), Kicker/Punter Connor Gibbs (Southern Mississippi) and DE Jake Ibieta (LSU).
The program is currently 1-4 halfway through the season.
