Montgomery head coach Brian Williams as the program had only 22 players in 2022 and in 2023 it will be much better with over 30 players in the program. Williams has taken this program to the quarterfinals and several 2nd round appearances over the years. Enrollment at the school is under 200 kids total & that’s 6th thru 12th. Coach Williams is a graduate of Montgomery HS (Class 1985) and Northwestern State. Six of his assistant coaches are also graduates of Montgomery as well. The coach’s son, Taylor Williams, is the offensive coordinator.

“We were so young in 2022 as we played a lot of freshmen & sophomores than ever before the last two years,” Williams said. “We have three seniors coming back in 2023.One of those seniors has never played. This year we have a strong core of Jr & So’ with experience from the last 2 years. We have a chance to be good this year if we stay healthy.”

The Tigers return starting QB Nathan Jordan from last year. Jordan missed some games with an injury in 2022 but is back healthy to lead his team in 2023. Everyone on deck will start both sides of the ball outside of the QB. Skill-wise, Montgomery HS will return experience with a larger group than the last three years led by second-year starter RB/DB Jocrien Shephard, RB/DB Darius Van Buren new starter, senior WR/HB/TE Jackson Nelson (5-11, 185), WR/CB Ashton Nelson (5-10, 165), WR/SS Layton Martin 6-0 175 and WR/DB Ayden Jones (5-10, 160). The trenches will build around OL/DE/LB Willie Christian (6-2, 200) with talent who can run, LB/OL Dane Collins (6-0, 185), center/DT Rogan Edwards (5-9, 165) who is a tough three-year starter and second-year starter DE/DT/OL Jett Bullock who has the talent to become a really good player.
