Spotlight Recruit: Luke Jones

Luke Jones

By Lee Brecheen

Position: Athlete

School: West Ouachita High School, Class of 2025

One of the smartest and toughest sleepers in the Class of 2025 college prospects in Louisiana, specifically North Louisiana, is a kid named Luke Jones from West Ouachita High School. Luke stands 6-foot tall, weighs 195 pounds, and possesses good speed (football speed). He has an exceptional ability to read and react to everything thrown at him. Luke started as a Weak-Side Linebacker but is versatile enough to play Safety at the college level. He also served as the team’s starting Punter.

In 2024, Luke recorded 149 tackles, including 49 solo tackles and 13 tackles for losses. He also had 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and several highlight-reel hits. His punting average was 37.8 yards per punt, with a long punt of 50 yards. Notably, he executed a 72-yard fake punt for a touchdown in 2024.

I would describe Luke as a “coach’s player.” He is one of the most focused players I’ve ever been around. Every practice, every snap, every drill, and every period, Luke is committed to improving his position. He also watches more film on his own time than most coaches. He is a true student of the game, which allows him to act as a coach on the field. Luke studies opponents’ tendencies as well as any coach and was often responsible for adjusting fronts and schemes based on what we worked on during practices, according to his position coach, Neil Wigley of West Ouachita High School.

Off the field, Luke is a solid young man. He has a servant’s heart and a strong work ethic. He’s always ready to help and ensures everything he does is done well, added Coach Wigley.

Our head football coach, Rainwater, has consistently preached that the recipe doesn’t change: the nastiest, most physical, and toughest team will win. I believe we, as a team, stuck to that recipe and saw the results from it. We have the best coaching staff in the state of Louisiana. Coach Rainwater came in with a clear plan and never wavered from it, which is why West Ouachita High School is where it is today. Coach Robert Hannah, our Defensive Coordinator, is unparalleled in his football knowledge and experience, while Coach Lee, our strength coach, is constantly finding ways to improve our program, regardless of the month or his location, said Luke Jones.

“I would like to go to college and eventually become a coach to give back because my coaches gave so much to me,” said Luke Jones.

Coach Neil Wigley, who is both a preacher and the Linebackers coach, has had a tremendous impact on me. He’s a great leader and coach who influences lives on and off the field, said Luke Jones.

“I really like Ouachita Baptist College and am hoping for an offer from them soon. If that doesn’t happen, I would like to walk on for football at either Louisiana Tech in Ruston or ULM in Monroe,” said Luke Jones.
