Road To State: LHSAA Division I First Round Playoff Score Recap

by Jace LeJeune and Lee Brecheen

It is the most wonderful time of the year, and I am not talking about the holidays. I am talking about the LHSAA Playoffs, which start this week. The playoffs are always unique in the sense that is unlike the regular season as you lose, there is another week to play. In the playoffs, there is no tomorrow because if you lose, you go home. Through all the classifications and all of the teams in the playoffs, there is one goal in mind and that is to be one of nine teams in the end holding a state championship trophy in the end. For the third year in a row, we got you covered as for the next couple of weeks, we will go through all of the private and public matchups from 1A all the way to 5A each and every week leading up to the All-State Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Prep Classic from December 13th-14th. Louisiana Football Magazine’s recruiting expert Lee Brecheen and editor Jace LeJeune give their insight on which teams will survive and continue their march to the State Championship. Today, we recap our Division I first round playoff bracket picks.

#2 Catholic High School (B.R.)-Bye

Jace's Bracket Breakdown: "I think it is going to be a three team race for the Division I state championship between Catholic, John Curtis, and Archbishop Rummel. The difference between number one and number two is huge as the number two seed would most likely have to play John Curtis in the semifinals. The Rummel Raiders will make the state championship and I have them facing Catholic High in a rematch of the 2015 Division I state championship. I think the Bears will be highly motivated to play John Curtis after their blowout loss last season and carry that momentum to a state championship."

Lee's Bracket Breakdown: "John Curtis is the most complete team I saw this year, and I do believe that they will beat Catholic High in the semifinals. I have Rummel advancing to the state championship on the other side of the playoffs, and we will see a rematch of Rummel and John Curtis in the state championship. This time, I have John Curtis winning it all."
