Arkansas Gets Massive Signee In Beau Chene Offensive Tackle Devon Manuel
by Jace LeJeune
In Lafayette today, the Arkansas Razorbacks went into its neighboring state and got one of the best offensive linemen in the state of Louisiana. From Beau Chene High School, the Gators' Devon Manuel always stood out. At 6-8, 300 pounds, Manuel's size always made him emerge from the crowd. However, his play has been just as big for the Gators throughout his career.
Louisiana Football Magazine's recruiting guru Lee Brecheen has been very impressed with this three star prospect and how he may have gotten away from a lot of the in state schools.
"Here is a kid that I saw this year have true SEC ability," Brecheen said. "I think LSU is missing on a national recruit in their backyard. This kid is mean and about every game, he has about 13 pancakes meaning he destroys defensive linemen, finishes blocks, is tough, and is all of 6-8. He is a lean 330 pounds because he is so long. He is committed to Arkansas, but I am really puzzled why LSU has not been on this guy. This kid is not a project and is gifted as almost anybody that you would see in the country."
Although the Bayou Bengals have not offered Manuel, many football programs have offered him including UCF, Tulane, Texas Southern, Texas A&M, Southern, South Alabama, Nicholls State, Michigan State, McNeese State, Louisiana Tech, UL, Kansas, Iowa State, Indiana, Houston, Grambling, and Alcorn State. Despite the many offers, Manuel remained to his Arkansas commitment since earlier this summer in June.
"It is the relationships that the coaches built with me during this whole process is what made me commit to Arkansas," Manuel said.
The relationship and commitment that head coach Sam Pittman and the entire coaching staff made towards Devon Manuel made the difference in the end when he eventually signed to be a part of the Razorbacks program. Now, he is hoping that the trust and commitment would only help him separate from the rest of the pack once he gets to Fayetteville.
