Bo Knows His Role When Signing With Millsaps

Silliman High School senior athlete Bo Gilkison has been one of the team's top players over the last couple of seasons.

"I made first team all district my junior and senior year," Gilkison said. "I played in the MAIS All-Star game in Jackson, Mississippi my senior year. I only played four games this season, but I had eight touchdowns and three interceptions. In my junior year, I had 16 touchdowns and two interceptions. I also won the district championship my sophomore and junior years."

The 6-1, 174 pound wide receiver took advantage of the limited opportunities to play last season.

"This season was tough for every team regardless if they played half their games or any at all," Gilkison said. "I wish we could’ve played more games, but I know everyone tried their hardest to make anything happen."

Gilkison did in fact try his hardest from the very beginning. No matter if it was his last game or his first start, Gilkison put it all on the line for the Wildcats.

"A game that sticks out the most for me would be the last game of my sophomore year in the first round of the playoffs against Wayne Academy," Gilkison said. "Prior to that game, I had not played a down on our varsity team. Due to injuries, I got to start at slot receiver and had 120 yards receiving and a touchdown. The touchdown play was to end the first half which made #1 on Hudl Top 5 plays that week."

Over the years, Gilkison has gotten better as a player when working on both his strengths and weaknesses.

"My biggest strengths are my footwork and ball possession," Gilkison said. "I need to improve on my vertical and getting up on jump balls."

His production and improvements over a three year period have given him a chance to sign a scholarship with the Millsaps Majors.

"While I had interest from some other schools, some a little bigger. Millsaps is only two hours away, and I really like the coaching staff," Gilkison said. "I think I will have more opportunities in my career path after football with a degree from Millsaps."

Gilkison will be majoring in finance and is pursuing a career in investment banking, but after now, he is planning on doing the best he possibly can on the football field just like during his time at Silliman.

"I think I’m a very versatile player with a good attitude and can help the team's overall play as soon as I’m on the field," Gilkison said.

One thing is for certain and that is Bo Gilkison knows what type of impact he can bring to Millsaps for the years to come.

Jace is from Addis, LA but resides in Port Allen, LA. Jace attends Southeastern Louisiana University and is majoring in Communications. This is Jace’s fourth year as Associate Editor at Louisiana Football Magazine. He is also a graduate from Catholic High School in baton-rouge where he was the editor of the school newspaper the “Bearly Published.” While at CHS, Jace also announced their football, basketball, and baseball games for the Bruin Broadcast Network which is the Catholic High’s streaming website for their events. On weekends, Jace is the PA announcer for his middle school football games. At home, Jace enjoys time with his family and friends. Besides being a huge football fan, Jace is also an avid NHRA drag racing fan.
