Chalmette High School Tight End Gavin Burtchaell Trying A New Challenge At Southeastern

For the past four seasons at Chalmette High School, Gavin Burtchaell completely dominated in the trenches while playing tight end. So much so that he has earned himself a roster spot at Southeastern next year and will continue his promising football career as an offensive tackle.

When I had the chance to speak with Burtchaell, he told me he's excited for the opportunity noting, “[He’s] ready for the grind and ready to get out there. [He’s] ready to put in the work.” Burtchaell's work ethic combined with his natural ability to block will certainly help him improve his game.

Once Burtchaell arrives at Southeastern, he will face a new challenge in his football career. His new coaches at Southeastern were so impressed by his natural ability to block at tight end in high school, they are planning on having him play offensive tackle in . Burtchaell understands the move stating, “[He] was more of a blocking tight end in high school” and believes that with a little bit of hard work he can thrive in that position.

Burtchell's dominance at the line of scrimmage is most likely due to the fact that he loves the physicality of the game. When I spoke with him he told me, “I like to hit. I like to get out on the field with my team. The physicality drives me when I’m on the field.” A mindset like this is a big reason why Burtchaell has been so successful, and why his transition from tight end to tackle should go smoothly.

Burtchaell told me he will always cherish the last four years he spent at Chalmette High School, and spoke very highly of his experience there stating, “It was great. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It was one of the best times of my life.”

Trent Schachter is from San Luis Obispo, California and currently a senior at Louisiana State University. He is majoring in Sports Administration and minoring in Business. In high school, he was a 4-time All-American and the only swimmer in his school’s history to qualify for the State Championship in every event. Trent was recruited by the Tigers to become a Division I student-athlete and spent the last four years competing against the best in the SEC.
