Class of 2023 Recruit Spotlight: Alexandria Senior High School CB Joshua Marie
by Freety Parker
Josh Marie, cornerback for Alexandria Senior High School, helped lead the Trojans to a record of 7-4 last year. Although they had a good season, Josh plans on helping lead the team to an even more successful season as a senior. Josh is 6’1 and 192 pounds, a frame similar to NFL cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who just so happens to be his favorite player. Last year he recorded 36 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception.
Josh started playing football his freshman year and realized that brotherhood is created through the hard work whether it be practice or game time. It was something he thrived on especially after watching his big brother Robert Bennett play. Jalen Ramsey and Josh are alike in a few ways, but Josh says that the trash talk and getting under the receiver’s skin is something they both do which in return makes them better players. When asked what his favorite moment has been while playing football, he said his next play is his favorite. He wants to maximize what he does and leave it all on the field. This is what separates Josh from the crowd. His drive to be better each and every play.
When Josh started playing football, he never really saw himself as a leader, but he realized as he grew up that all of the kids growing up were looking up to him and the older kids on the team. Josh works part time and mentors the kids growing up influencing them to be the best individuals they can be on and off the field. When asked what he does best on the field, Josh said his emotion and intensity while playing is what brings the energy to the game. Next year, he plans on staying focused and making sure that he blocks out any negative opinions that people have to offer and make sure that winning the game for his teammates is his main priority. Working hard in the weight room during the offseason is going to improve his already impressive bench press max of 225 and max squat of 405.
For Josh, playing at the next level would mean the world to him and would play at whatever gives him the best offer for him and his family. Outside of football, Josh enjoys shooting hoops, eating, and going to church. Josh says with the good lord and his mom pushing him to be better than average, he knows exactly what he needs to do to help the team next year and push himself to the limit.
