Class of 2023 Recruit Spotlight: East St. John High School Running Backs Cortez Fisher & George Martin

I had the opportunity to reach out to East St. John’s running backs Cortez Fisher and George Martin.

Cortez Fisher adds height and speed at the running back position coming in at 5'10 and weighing 185 pounds. He has a 3.2 GPA and has an incredible squat max for 450 pounds. His max bench press is 245 and his clean is also 245. Watching his film shows how Fisher is shifty for his size, but also puts his helmet and his cleats into the ground when its needed.

When asked about what he loved about football, Fisher responded by saying he gets to showcase his skills and play for the opportunity of getting a scholarship. Fisher also said he’s constantly improving on things like being a better person and being a bright light for kids growing up so they can look up to him for inspiration.

George Martin is 5’8, 172 pounds with a 4.0 GPA. His stats from the 2021 season are recorded as 30 carries for 153 yards and one touchdown in six games played. He also has a pretty hefty squat max at 435. His bench press is at 280 and his clean is at 245. Outside of football, Martin enjoys running track.

Martin takes no days off he says. He starts his day off with a four mile run on the highway every morning and is constantly trying to better himself both on and off the field. His favorite thing about football is stated as watching your results from all the blood, sweat, and tears go into play on the field. Martin is currently working on improving his speed and awareness and you can see he is making the preparations in the off-season to be able to showcase his skills this upcoming season.
