Continuing the Family Legacy, Central Lafourche's Star Running Back Deon Jenkins Jr. Is Striving To Be State's Leading Rusher
by Alexis Mason
Deon Jenkins Jr. is a 5-8, 190 pound senior star running back for the Central Lafourche Trojans in Raceland, LA. He is currently the state's leading rusher with close to 1,500 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns. Jenkin’s success comes from a big influence from his father Deon Jenkins Sr., who helped trained him at a young age and was also a standout receiver at Central Lafourche as well. Although Deon Jr. is often compared to his father, he uses his own skills to differentiate himself because he is more of a player who uses his power to run through and break tackles. Whereas his father was smaller in size and was known for his speed and running around the defenders, Deon Jr. says his motivation and inspiration come from mother and father who encourage him to try harder when he’s not doing his best and keeps focus.
He has rushed for 3,877 yards and 51 touchdowns during his high school career. Even though he is a talented athlete with the stats to prove it, he has yet to receive any offers. Deon Jr. seems like the type who will continue to play his best and remain humble until his goal is met to receive a offer.
