DeRidder Offensive Lineman James Williams Has Big Things Planned For The Lamar Cardinals
by Jace LeJeune
DeRidder High School senior offensive lineman James Williams has always stuck out from the crowd at 6-4, 310 pounds, but it is also his play that also stands out as well.
"My aggressiveness and mobility are my biggest strengths," Williams said.
Those qualities came out Williams just recently as it was his junior season that made him realize that there was a chance for him to play at the next level.
"I realized football was the sport for me my junior year when I made 1st Team All-District," Williams said.
The Lamar Cardinals certainly realized that possibility as well when offering the DeRidder All-District offensive lineman early in 2020. Although Lamar was not the only school to offer Williams, it was the school that made the most impression on him.
"The coaches felt like a second family, and I like what they had to offer academically," Williams said.
The Lamar Cardinals are getting themselves a big impact player according to Louisiana Football Magazine guru Lee Brecheen.
"James Williams will go down field and block everyone," Brecheen said. "He has long arms and legs. I love this kid's game."
Williams will agree as he loves going downhill to run block.
"I love to run block because I get to dominate the person in front of me," Williams said.
Although Williams loves to run block, he also realizes that he needs to improve on his pass blocking in order to become the most complete offensive lineman. Still, Williams knows what his potential can be.
"I have a lot to offer to the team," Williams said.
The former DeRidder Dragon will get the chance to showcase what he can do for the Cardinals next Fall.
