From Silliman To East Feliciana, Hastings Dawson Made Most Of Senior Season

Over the course of the 2020 season, there were a lot of seniors that had to move and play for a different team because their previous team was no longer playing football that season because of COVID-19. For senior quarterback Hastings Dawson, he transferred to East Feliciana High School from Silliman High School for more opportunities to play.

"The main reason I transferred was because Silliman's season was shortened to only three games and we would have more games at East Feliciana," Dawson said.

Also, as a quarterback, playing at East Feliciana allowed him to throw the football to some talented players.

"All these guys were super explosive," Dawson said. "Rodriguez London was a playmaker and Frankie Dunn was the fastest person on most of the fields we played on. Also, Jordan Green was just a beast at defensive end, and he even made a few big catches for us."

The 6-2, 180 pound quarterback did have other weapons to throw to, but despite the offensive playmakers around the gunslinger signal caller, the Tigers only managed to win two games. Still, Dawson could not trade away anything else for the opportunities he had in 2020.

"Well, we didn’t have the greatest season record wise, but it was more fun than I could’ve wished it to be, and even with COVID and everything going on, we still managed to play six games."

Louisiana Football Magazine's recruiting guru Lee Brecheen saw Dawson play and was impressed with what he has seen in those games.

"I really like Hastings Dawson's arm strength," Brecheen said. "He has a rifle for an arm and is a sleeper that is flying under the radar."

It was not only his arm strength that was impressive, but it was also his ability to stay positive in dire situations and find ways to continue to improve his game.

"I definitely was trying to work on my mechanics and footwork a lot and as the season progressed, I feel like I got better at that," Dawson said.

Getting better over the course of the season helped him get collegiate attention.

"Louisiana , Belhaven, Birmingham Southern, Mary Hardin Baylor, and a few more Division 3 and 2 schools talked to me for football, but I recently committed to Louisiana in order to play golf on a scholarship," Dawson said.

Although Dawson will be trading in his football helmet for golf clubs in , it is the opportunities and lessons learned along the way that will help him in the long run.

Jace is from Addis, LA but resides in Port Allen, LA. Jace attends Southeastern Louisiana University and is majoring in Communications. He is also a graduate from Catholic High School in baton-rouge where he was the editor of the school newspaper the “Bearly Published.” While at CHS, Jace also announced their football, basketball, and baseball games for the Bruin Broadcast Network which is the Catholic High’s streaming website for their events.
